A few quick NON-SPOILER questions about True Detective

I desperately need some new shows to watch. The past few weeks I've seen people all over my news feed and this board absolutely raving about TD. I have tried to avoid even clicking these threads or knowing about it for fear of spoilers, so I literally have no idea what it's about..at all. Presumably it's about a detective. But can someone give me a little more info on it without divulging too much? How many seasons has it been? How long is each episode? Can it be compared to another show? I need to decide if I want to get caught up.

It is only 7 epsiodes into an 8 epsiode season. It is a stand alone season, like AHS. Next season will be a new story and cast.
It is amazing.
Traces back events about suspected serial killings.

You need to get caught up. Its unlike anything currently, or recently, on TV.

It's about two detectives and a murder case they had in the 90s. It bounces back and forth between that time and "present day" interviews with those detectives. It's set in Louisiana.
It's had one season (finale on Sunday), it's an hour an episode, and I can't really compare it to another show honestly. You just need to watch it.

Two detectives, serial killer case over 20 some years in SW LA.
First season, 8 episodes, hour long each.
Watch it. Great, great show.

It's one season. 8th and final episode airs this Sunday. Story follows two detectives as they investigate a woman who was murdered in religious cult fashion. Next season will have new detectives and new story.
Oh, and the detectives are played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Holy crap I didn't realize it was still in the first season, that's great. Well yeah this is a no-brainer then. Getting caught up by Sunday might be tough but I'll definitely give it a go.
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

It is a good true crime novel turned into an 8 hr movie.

I may have to do another marathon viewing before Sunday as well. The show really is enjoyable for a variety of reasons- cinematography, dialogue, acting, soundtrack all come to mind. Not to mention I grew up around all those little towns and recognize those last names. This is one of those shows that gets lots of people theorizing and trying to solve this puzzle- makes for great water cooler conversation at work.
I'm hoping to catch a few new insights watching the first seven episodes again back to back.

I completely agree and it is interesting how much it really is set up like a True Crime novel.

Best show on television. But I wouldn't try to pick it up in Episode 8.

Just take my word for it, and do it. I've watched Breaking Bad, The Wire, House of Cards, TWD, etc... (in other words, I'm a show-watcher) and I'd venture to say it's been my 2nd favorite thus far, behind The Wire.
But The Wire had 5 seasons.

if you watch the premiere then getting caught up won't be a problem by sunday. I would have binge watched the whole season the first night after I watched the premiere. THAT is how hooked I was/am

I'm just upset that this is a stand-alone season
I wanna see Woody and MM back at it again on a new case

It's entertaining, but it helps if you happen to like Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConnahey (sic). I'm not sure it would be receiving such raves if two regular guys were playing the parts of the main detectives.

I didn't even realize they were in it

Crime thriller type and the best thing on TV currently. Must watch IMO.
