NFL Competition Committee Considers Longer PAT Attempts

NFL.com reports the league's competition committee has discussed a proposal that would move extra-point attempts from the two- to 25-yard line.
That means PATs would go from 19 to 42 yards in length. Kickers converted 1,262-of-1,267 extra-point attempts last season, good for a staggering 99.6 conversion rate. The play has become so automatic as to be pointless. Making PATs longer would place a greater emphasis on finding and keeping good kickers, as well as encourage more two-point conversion attempts. Although we're on board with modifying the extra point, automatically awarding seven points and reverting to six if a team fails on a two-point conversion may make more sense.
I guess I'm all for making the extra point more than just a formality. But the drasticness of this change seems excessive.

Better to make it harder than to just eliminate it completely.

42 yard try or 3 yards for 2? Easy choice. If you're 50% from 3 yards you've lost nothing.

This.
I like the excitement of the 2 pt conversion late in the game, and eliminating the PA would nullify that.

Eliminating the PAT doesn't mean the 2 pt conversion has to go away.

I don't think you need to eliminate it, but I do like the idea of making it more difficult.

I like the idea of encouraging more 2 pt conversions by making the XP harder.

well kickers just became a little less valuable in fantasy football...

That would make it a 45 yard attempt

Id rather see the extra point eliminated completely. Id probably be fine with all FG kicks being eliminated.
When the FG kick was invented, it wasnt by a specialized player that can't do anything else.
I just can't think of any other sport where there is this alternate way of scoring that is a completely different style from the rest of the game. I guess rugby.

Rugby requires the scorer to kick the extra point and from a perpendicular point on the field where they crossed the goal line.

i would mark the ball at the 15 yard line making it like a 32 yard kick

but it does eliminate the trick play.
you either go for 2 from the 3 or kick from the 20?

All Tds are worth 7 points...
Except if you go for 2 then you can end up with 6 or 8 points.

So how many points for a successful fake extra point conversion?

Take the foot out of football.
Touchdown: 6 points.
Extra point kicks: No more.
Two point conversions: Mandatory play after each touchdown.
Field goals: No more.
Kickoffs: No more.
Punts: No more. No quick kicks or free kicks, either. Offenses will be running plays on fourth down all game long. Some plays will succeed, some will not.
Pregame coin toss: Winner of the toss can choose offense or defense. If the winner chooses offense, his team gets the ball on his 30. If the winner wants to go on defense first, opponent gets the ball on the opponent's 30.
Safety: Still worth 2 points. Score a safety, then your offense gets the ball at the 50.
