Just wondering.

Not really. It's more like. Hmmm not sure what I could compare it to if you've never had freshwater trout

Wikipedia says:
So I'd say not likely.

Contrary to its name, the spotted seatrout is not a member of the trout family (Salmonidae), but of the drum family (Sciaenidae).
So I'd say not likely.

That just blew my mind. They have completely different skin than the red and black drum.

Ya'll didn't know this?

Had no idea. I just figured that the speckled trout would, you know, be in the trout family. What's next, redfish are part of the eel family?
My world has been shaken.

quote:
The red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), also known as channel bass, redfish, spottail bass or simply reds, is a game fish that is found in the Atlantic Ocean from Massachusetts to Florida and in the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to Northern Mexico.[1] It is the only species in the genus Sciaenops. The red drum is a cousin to the black drum (Pogonias cromis), and the two species are often found in close proximity to each other; they can interbreed and form a robust hybrid, and younger fish are often indistinguishable in flavor.[2]

I know. I was just joking. Not joking about speckled trout, though.

Not at all. Rainbow trout is much, much better.
Fun fact: brook trout aren't actually trout.

Freshwater fish taste better overall in my opinion. But I like em all. My dad has always called redfish channel bass.

No not at all. Specs taste more like a walleye or other white flesh fish.
Way, way better tasting in my opinion.
