Crumbling of America

I wanted to post my response to someone in the OT who posted this about white flight.
Dude wake up and smell the coffee!! We have spent TRILLIONS on inner city school's, pubic housing, libraries, city buses, welfare, prison's,and CRIME prevention. And you think we haven't invested enough? No amount of money can stop the crumbling of America and it's only going to get WORSE. All I can say your arse better be prepared. I hate the fact that's what our future hold's but that's the way I see it going down.

Isn't that what "gentrification" is? But that's racist too, right?

Throwing money at a problem is never the answer.

I hear this all the time, but I have yet to witness anyone suggesting we simply throw money at things.
It's become some clichéd mantra without any basis in reality. I think people use it so they don't actually have to consider real, hard solutions to the problems.

You know how I know you just woke up out of a 50+ year coma?

are you kidding?
Education
Poverty
Drugs
All three have had tremendous amounts of money thrown, discarded, wasted on them with little to no results of any real consequence. The answer given to most problems with Government influence always starts with more money..

You're going to have to provide evidence that there was no plan of what to do with the budget in the NJ school system.
...indeed, you will have to provide evidence that there was no budget at all.

No.

Education
I believe that in addition to education being underfunded, their revenues are mis-applied.

Poverty
While I agree that our poverty programs are ineffective, I would hardly characterize them as 'throwing money at the problem'.

Drugs
While I agree that the WoD is a complete and utter failure, AGAIN, I have nowhere seen money simply thrown at the problem.
A program can be under-funded AND mismanaged at the same time. Just because you increase the budget and nothing happens doesn't mean the increased money is not needed, it may simply be mis-applied.
Again, it's just a mantra that's used with very little thought.

Dude you're being obtuse.
When people use the phrase "throw money at" something, it's not like they literally mean just blindly handing over more cash.
They're talking about the mindset that says "our kids are failing in school because they don't have iPads and smart boards!" Instead of addressing root issues.

Its a mantra used when the money allocated/budgeted or whatever vernacular you choose is continuously spent and increased with no marketable improvement.
Whether or not a program is in place or started with the monies doesnt change the mantra that the money is being thrown away. Its simply chasing a rabbit down a hole that never hits a bottom

The school system was designed to fail, this is well documented. Yet people complain about the school system not working.
People talk about the crumbling of America, they talk about welfare and crime. They don't talk about the creation of the Federal Reserve. They don't talk about the corporate takeover of our existence. They don't talk about fascism.
No, they point their fingers downward at the inferior or at the piñata politicians who are ready made targets to unleash our frustration. Anything to keep us from honing in on the real issues.

except the mantra is being used to DE-fund public schools, and the mantra is used to support the position that our schools are failing and we need to get rid of them altogether.
When you start with, "Throwing money at the problem doesn't work" and end with, "We need to scrap the entire public school system" I don't think I'm being obtuse. The mantra is used to justify throwing the baby out with the bathwater - it is NOT used to promote discussion addressing the root issues.
Our public education system in Louisiana is woefully underfunded, AND what little funds they have are squandered. No, "throwing money at the problem" WON'T fix it, but no one is saying it will. It is a classic straw man.

No one is suggesting this.

This is the issue and exactly why people are hesitant to drop more public money into the system without seeing some overhauling.

No shortage of talk on these issues, ST; just a shortage of agreement in regard to applicable solutions.
Guess you didn't read my response to your critique, back in Sailor's thread. Not that it would matter.
