Did anyone else just hear that old bruh named Beau (or Bo) Broussard on NPR say that he didn't vote for Obama in 2008 and won't vote for Mary Landrieu because "he don't vote for black people, lady. I was raised that they have their place and I have mine"??
Yikes!
Yikes!

I'm sure NPR was more than happy to broadcast have him on the air to label as the typical Republican voter.

I would bet, in his lifetime of voting greater than 80% of the candidates he voted for were democrats.

You think it's that hard to find an old cajun dude that would think like that?

If you read / listen to the story, they go to Galliano, where there is some tree that old folks gather around. Apparently they fancy themselves kingmakers of politicians, though it's hard to believe that the bosses of Galliano have that much sway.
I don't think the reporter actually expected the guy to come out and say something racist. She was asking him about what he thought of the ACA; he was saying that Landrieu's support for the ACA has made him decisively against her. The reporter asked him if he voted for Obama in 2008 and that was his response.

So? The party allegiances of the Civil War died hard in the South. What's your point?

Will go back and listen to it later but I have no problem taking Bayou Sam at his word.
One thing this does bring to mind is how much more effectively Dems seem to be at using viewpoints expressed by voters like "Beau" than R's seem to be in utilizing viewpoints expressed by people actually connected to pols such as Jeremiah Wright, Ayers, and so forth. Of course, I didn't much care for Wright or Michelle Obama's comments on being proud of America, yet I voted for Obama in 2008 (something I view as a dreadful mistake). Maybe the R's generally don't have the stomach for a good smear?

When it comes to smearing, I don't think it's about Republicans and Democrats but particular political operatives. Karl Rove is the best and most shameless smear-er I can think of.

Me too, NO. I couldn't push the McCain button...and really thought Obama would at least fix the Health Care stuff. Fool me once...!
What is worse, that Barack Obama has done more to REINFORCE racist stereotypical characterizations in not only the simplistic minds of people like that dude...but in many who - before Obama - had overcome the cultural status quo prejudices. I know successful and really smart folk who now view Blacks at basically Tribalist. Vote Black...vote to subsidize the Black Tribe. Merit nws.
Pendulum swings can be very problematic. The Germans were smart too.
Obama has blew it. He should have left that chip on his shoulder in his "mentor's" Church.

That NPR is all too happy to label this guy through inference that this is your typical republican voter.
Did NPR go into the ghetto's and ask the guy on the street corner why he supports ACA and through inference demonstrate that this is your typical democrat voter? Probably not. They probably whet to some college professor for the ACA advocates side.
Did the story go down like this? Interview an uneducated cajun man born in the '40s that has the world experience of watching Popeye on channel 4 on Saturday mornings and shrimping in the marsh during the week who opposes ACA. Juxtaposed to a educated college professor (or college professor type) who advocates for ACA. The reporter got both sides of the story covered...all is fair.

I wouldn't say it died hard. You make it sound like the south was republican in the 20th century.

I totally agree with you. I just heard this piece and it really pissed me off for the same reason.

Has anyone considered the possibility that he's a plant?

One of the men sitting under the tree one particular afternoon is Beau Broussard. He's not Cajun, but they let him hang out here anyway.
I'd be willing to bet that Mr. Broussard is Cajun, NPR.

I wonder what he knows about Benghazi
