Could a track be placed in the dome? I'd think the dome would be one of the best olympic venues.

build up Tad Gormley Stadium... remember... a US T&F Olympic Trials has been held there before (yes I know it now has artificial turf in there... I'm sure they could put down natural grass if needed)

Tad could also be a soccer stadium host (though not a real good viable option as is)... and as I 1st realized in the London games... not everything needs to be in the host city... so Tiger Stadium and other major college facilities could be used

the Dome would probably do all the gymnastics stuff

Smoothie King Ctr for basketball (obviously)

Morial Ctr for fencing/wrestling

Pontchartrain Ctr & Alario Ctr could be utilized in some way (weightlifting)

also... if we were to get an Olympiad... that would be the perfect chance to build up the old Jazzland/Six Flags NOLA area into a gigantic sports complex

I don't see the Olympics ever going somewhere without new venues, certainly not one that is what, 40+ years old?

The dome might be able to be used for minor events, but they'd have to build more flashy venues.

I think it would be awesome though. The humidity would absolutely make a difference and would create some really interesting dynamics.

A new city. And a ton of development that will be useless in a couple of years.

Where would soccer be played if not the dome?

Last three Summer Olympiads were completely or partially in August, although Sydney stretched into October. Rio and Tokyo will be in the same time range as the last three Summer Olympiads.

Well Sydney and Rio are Spring Olympics. So there's no reason why New Orleans couldn't host in April.

City Park, Reliant, Tulane Stadium. When ATL hosted, Soccer was all over the US.

Medal rounds in Tiger Stadium.

They were in Athens during the ATL Olympics

They had to remove the hedges to fit the soccer field. Tiger Stadium isn't wide or long enough.

I think it might, just might, be long enough, but hadn't thought about width.

the Dome's Post-Katrina re-configuration makes it pretty much impossible to play international soccer there

have to be a new stadium

I still say a major sports complex at the Jazzland site

Soccer field is 115 yards end line to end line. So 2.5 yards extra on each end plus a very small space beyond the current endzone.

UGA has like 15 extra yards beyond their east endzone.

Just did some checking....the Rose Bowl, Citrus Bowl, Legion Field, and Sanford Stadium all have been Olympic Soccer venues....

since FIFA doesn't have an exact size, Tiger Stadium could probably be used for the finals...

you'd need to look at Los Angeles or Atlanta to see what new facilities they built as a comparasion...

Aw heck yeah. We can renovate the Mid South Coliseum for the wrestling and stuff and Jerry Lawler could do commentary.... have the rowing stuff on the Mississippi.... White water rafting on the Loosahatchie (well... rafting, anyways)... Fed Ex forum for they gymnastics... and track and field at Halle Stadium. We got this covered.

The going bid rate is 50k, payable in cash, and must be payable to C. Ray Nagin in order to guarantee you win the bid for the contract of your choosing.

TIA

I would definitely make it up to Memphis if they hosted the Olympics. Hopefully the hotels out in Collierville wouldn't be too ungodly expensive.

They'll put you up at the Sunset Inn out on 72 going towards Piperton... maybe they'll be through widening the road by then and it'll be a bit easier to get too. It's not expensive. At all.

Is that after 72 splits off to MS? Is that Byhalia Rd? I know I wouldn't recognize the Germantown/Collierville area. Last I was out there Nonconnah I think made it as far as Byhalia. I still remember being shocked seeing Hack Cross was no longer a 2 lane country road.
