I have a 900cfm hood over my grill on the porch...don't remember the brand, but it was around $700. It does a decent job of removing smoke...as I'd estimate it gets around 75% of the smoke coming off the grill, but within a couple of minutes all lingering smoke gets sucked in as well. Looking back, I should've bought the 48"w model.

Another thing to consider is cleaning that bad boy.

Solid point.

Wouldn't strategically placed fans/ceiling fans get the smoke away from where you want it more efficiently? I really don't know, but I can't imagine an outside vent doing what you need done and it still be quiet.

Agreed...I been looking at the vents more based of cleaning them and that more expensive one I posted has a different kind of blower setup. Thats what keeps it so quiet and also has just one pan that you remove to clean up...just slides out...and supposedly that's it.

Probably so...but my issue is building code...I need a vent over it with it being on the house. I am looking at moving things around but its really in the layout that I want so idk.

Gotcha, sorry, I missed that point. I'd probably go with the best looking but cost efficient one just to be to code and then do the fans haha

I wouldn't mind if the vent actually does work too...and know it would on a calm day

I found this little vid on the vent a hood magic lung. I might have to see if I can just find this one cheaper.

That looks pretty cool.

That's part of my problem too. I was thinking about at my house. Which is 27 miles from the GOM and about 125 yds from the lake. I never have a "calm day" at my house!

Fans get so incredibly dirty so quickly you won't cut them on again while cooking after you have to clean them a few times. NASTY!

not so calm there. Its kinda windy where the house is being built but a lot of that has to do with there are no other houses built next door to it and no fence right now. Once all that goes up it will help...and I have shutters I can close off the far side of the whole the fireplace.

Go commercial or talk to a sheet metal place. I bet they could make something custom for much cheaper, put an inline vent fan where it enters the duct to the roof...

I have a number some places I called today gave me for a sheet metal place to build one. I will probably look into that too. Thats what I get for wanting 2 primos....need something 60" wide...save on the primos to spend on the hood

Do you have any commercial brand names to look at?

I kinda like what I have read about that magic lung being so quiet and supposedly easy to clean.

Have you visited Shopper's Choice in Baton Rouge? Might be worth a visit if nothing else for ideas. They have a huge outdoor showroom with tons of full kitchen setups...

I have not...have not had much time but I may try to make that a point. They dont have any real big places here to see different style setups. I am going to just have to get some sort of vent for over it I dont think im going to be moving any of it around. Guess it just may or may not be smoky when I have 2 primos pumping once the house is done and I take delivery of a second

I'm adding a 30 by 14 screened in patio with fireplace to the back of my house right now. I plan to put my egg and gas grill at the East end and put a fan on the wall to help blow smoke out through the screen. No building code issue, though. I thought about a vent, but decided against it. It's a pretty long room with 3 ceiling fans and a fireplace at the other end.

I don't know the technicalities of vents, but I put in a gas stovetop with gas grill in my kitchen a few years ago. I got a Kitchen Aid vent hood that's pretty darn strong. I've had plenty of flame and smoke and its all sucked up with no smoke in the kitchen. If you hold a paper towel under it, it will suck it up out of your hands. However, I have a ceiling fan right in front of my stove top and if I leave it on high, the smoke will circulate a little bit out from under that hood, so I turn it off or on a lower speed when things are steamy or smoky. My vent looks like the one in the link and it cost about that much, maybe a little less. As strong as it is, I don't think it would be that much help on a windy day. It sure works great in the house, though. I can baste something with butter on that grill and smoke things up good and there is no smoke and little smell, surprisingly, when I'm done.

Primo is right at 26-27" I think with the hing on the back so grill is a tad smaller but I know what your talking about. They also make spacers for the vents to get them more over the pit.
