I also believe that Belle has hurt his credibility and legacy with the cheating/scandals. I HOPE Bregman plays as well as many of us believe and he becomes the career GOAT from LSU. He's likable, hard-working, and a great liaison for LSU.

I think more than a few LSU fans were on him more than usual too because he was black.
In all the years I've attended games at the Box, going back to the original Alex Box, I've never once heard anyone say anything racial to or about a black player.
The only time I've ever witnessed anyone say anything racial was during the 2000 Super Regional when the pitching coach for UCLA called Shane Youman's parents (who were sitting in the front row next to me in the right field stands by UCLA's bullpen) "monkeys."
The reaction from the LSU fans was swift and aggressive. We started shouting down the UCLA coach, calling him some unkind words. One fan started climbing over the wall to get at the UCLA coach. Security stopped him and the UCLA coach high-tailed it back to his dugout and never came back to the bullpen again.
I've always thought it very ironic that the only racial slur I've ever heard at an LSU baseball game came from a coach whose team's home stadium is named after Jackie Robinson.

Nobody, especially me, will advocate or say Belle was a good guy. But if you're talking pure talent/ability, then it's Belle by a longshot.
Furniss, Walker, Fontenot, Cresse, Larson, those guys had half the talent Belle had.
If you're talking a nice guy or role model contest, then Belle obviously gets zero consideration.
So, which is it? Most likeable former tiger of all time or most talented?

Let's see....Belle has HOF numbers at the highest level of baseball in the world.
Furniss never made the bigs, Walker has mediocre numbers, Fontenot had a few stops with poor numbers, Cresse never made the bigs, Larson made the bigs for 1 second and failed to bat his weight.
I'd say my statement is far from hyperbolic.

I think you underestimate how little difference there is between a HOFmer and a guy who bounces around for 10 years in terms of talent is all I'm saying. A .250 hitter vs. a .285 hitter is very little. 20 HRs vs 35 HRs over 160 games and 700 ABs is not much. "Twice as much" is hyperbolic.

Todd Walker never hit 20 HRs.
His best season was .296/17 HRs.
Belle's best season was .357/36 HRs in teh shortened 94 season. I'd say that's as close to twice as much as possible.

I used nice round numbers for the sake of argument that are close to the numbers of some of the players you gave. Was that not obvious? Should I be literal and specific like you?
But you said twice as talented. So should I assume you meant twice as many hits, HRs, runs, etc? Or do .050 extra points in AVG count as "twice"?

Okay Mrs. Walker. Your husband had a fine career. No shame in it.

If you hate Albert Belle because he was prick, so be it. His ability and production speaks for itself.

you dont actually believe that huh?

If Belle wasn't plagued by chronic injuries that forced him to retire, he'd be in the HOF right now.
Bregman has a steep hill to climb. His work ethic is great but I'm not sure he is as physically gifted as Albert belle was.
