Obama's alleged Executive Order "dictatorship"

This has been a huge right wing media talking point for awhile and the lemmings on here have clung to it out of their extreme hatred of Obama.
I certainly have reservations about the growing power of the executive since 9/11 as well as the executive order process in general. That's a perfectly reasonable discussion to have. But before you succumb to the fear mongering and "anger points" that are being fed to you I thought you should take a look at the facts for a change.

The point the article seems to miss is that much of the concern from the right stems from Obama's State of the Union speech and his declared intent to use executive orders MORE in the FUTURE, bypassing congress MORE often than he has in the PAST.

You have a president who is claiming the right to basically rewrite or ignore or negate federal laws. That is a dangerous thing.

what we're seeing now is the usurpation of authority that's unprecedented in this country.

Well, you know, a system in which a single individual is allowed to rewrite legislation or ignore legislation is a system that borders on authoritarianism. I don't believe that we are that system yet. But we cannot ignore that we're beginning to ignore a system that is a pretense of democracy if a president is allowed to take a law and just simply say, 'I'm going to ignore this,' or, 'I'm going to shift funds that weren't appropriated by Congress into this area.'
The president's State of the Union indicated this type of unilateralism that he has adopted as a policy. Now, many people view that as somehow empowering. In my view, it's dangerous, that is what he is suggesting is to essentially put our system off line. This is not the first time that convenience has become the enemy of principle. But we've never seen it to this extent.

That article is disingenuous. Not all EOs are equal. Some toe the line of constitutionality more than others, wouldn't you agree?

I hate Obama.
I hate executive orders.
Does it matter how many he has executed? Nawp.
So he has only written one more than Bush in the modern era with years left to this term.
What exactly does that prove?

Why let facts get in the way of a healthy conservative masturbation rant?

I mean okay I guess but how can you criticize a guy for something he hasn't done?

That's fair. Which ones specifically have concerned you?

I do glean amusement from the fact that even by this really goofy metric BO falls short of the previously most damning POTUS...

That's fair I suppose. As a liberal he has sold out liberalism and what he has promised to do so many times that I learned long ago not to take anything he says he will do seriously at all. So when he said that I just kind of shrugged and assumed it was more of the same rhetoric without action.

And what we've been seeing is the shift of gravity within that system in a very dangerous way that makes it unstable, and I think that's what the president is doing. I think that we've become a nation of enablers.
I think many people will come to loathe that they remained silent during this period
I'm afraid this is beginning to border on a cult of personality for people on the left

Was it or was it not "The Law" that Obamacare had to start for individual payers on October 1st as the dems and Obama kept telling the nation. If so, then how in the hell can he just give extensions to the business part of the law without going through congress? How could he have given waivers to the unions and many others, including congress and himself?

dude we don't even really like Obama that much at this point. Haven't for quite some time really. His main selling point to us is that our only alternative is the Republicans.

Because the executive branch, by definition, enforces (or in this case chooses not to enforce) the law. This type of thing has gone on for a very long time. If you have a problem with that system then that's fine, I don't disagree with you, but don't single out Obama.

Try to have a little more sympathy the next time we back a McCain or Romney, then. That was, virtually, the main reason they got my vote:
"On the ballot? Check. Not Obama? Check. Nose held? Checkity-check. And...VOTE."

Seems like this is what the American political system has become for most people regardless of what side you're on. RINO's vs DINO's. Sad for all of us I guess.

Ofcourse we are going to single out Obama right now. He is the guy with all the pens.

Again-tell it to the man who said it. That Right wing, Obama-hater Jonathan Turley, racist in extremis.
