i just think that when you allow two gays to have a union and call that action a marriage you are saying that marriage can be understood apart from procreation and that makes zero sense.
Marriage has existed throughout history as a way to regulate the obligations and responsibilities of procreation. So when you allow the union of two gays to be called a marriage, you are changing the definition so much that it is destroying the need for the institution of marriage.
Makes zero sense to me. None. Nada. Haha

since you tainted it with that last line I couldn't agree there

Business owners should have the right to conduct their business according to their beliefs. It boggles my mind to see govt dictating how private enterprise is conducted.
Well we're in agreement on that.

Why do you need to let everyone know you're atheist? I am Christian but have never felt a need to discuss it with anyone. There are people on both sides that do however, and I have never understood it. Just keep your mouth shut and keep your beliefs to yourself.
You being Atheist isn't like you're waking around with a scarlet letter sewn on to your clothes so I don't see the big deal. Sounds like you just want a reason to bitch like the rest of the world. We don't need your beliefs and thoughts crammed down our throats.

Why would you share it anyways?
I beloved what I believe because I'm sick of others throwing their beliefs in my face.
Man up, keep it to yourself.

So I assume couples with a sterile partner should also be prevented from marrying. Along with older couples with children who don't want to add to their brood, no room for them in the marriage club.

Where does it say marriage is strictly for procreation? The Bible? Now you're getting into religious issues which shouldn't be relevant given separation of church and state.
The bottom line is, the fundamental difference between those for or against gay marriage is that those against still think gay people actually choose to be gay, rather than being born that way. Which is what really makes zero sense.

So only two fertile heterosexuals can get married?

Well said. Too many people think everyone needs to know their business these days.

I am just letting you know how the definition of the word came about. The only reason the word has existed in human societies and civilizations was to regulate from a social point of view the obligations and responsibilities attendant upon procreation. I see absoultely no reason to change definitions of words just because you feel like doing so.
When you start playing games this way you are actually acting as if the institution of marriage has no basis independent of your own arbitrary whim. That is crazy to me.
I am all for gays being allowed to have a union and tat union being recognized but to call that action a marriage is crazy.

Then it was a terrible point.
They run everything...literally. What you suggest it being oppressed is really only FINALLY having to compete on the playing field with alternative ideas where once your ran roughshod over everyone else who ws either unable or unwilling to voice dissent.
You get a little bit of push back and conservative Christians start crying like little bitches about oppression.

You're clearly referring to your religious interpretation of the word and are grasping at straws to come up with a secular argument to support your conclusion.

I don't. It almost NEVER comes up. But...I live in South Louisiana, and you're not going to insult both of us by suggestion that it's not likely that many times daily, both in my personal and professional life, I have people talk to me about their religious faith...are you? When that happens, it's because the assumptions is because we're both on the same page. At that point, I have a choice. Smile and nod in agreement, or say that I don't feel the same way or have the same beliefs. Because my beliefs are so looked down upon, I am forced to either hide them or risk the penalty that comes with having them.

I wish that was the norm.

Agreed.

See above. You'd never EVER know my beliefs in actual life...unless you felt the need to start preaching to me. And even then, it would take a while before I finally responded. But, given where I live, it happens...and far more often than it ought to.
So...suggestion Christians are being repressed is sort of funny to me.

Not to mention making the argument that something in 2014 should be left unchanged because it was that way 10,000 years ago. That alone is an absurd argument.
I suppose the end of slavery should've never happened, or women's suffrage, or tort laws ( )

I am just saying that words mean things and we shouldn't change definitions of words just because somebody feels like doing so.
Yes. Definitions should be left alone. Why do you support changing the meanings if words ????
