Speed Limit on Airline, BR to Gonzales. Am I Crazy?Maybe I'm just getting too damn old.
I am old too, BUT I drive 190 from EAST of Denham to Choctaw everyday... I go way faster than the speed limit.. I avg around 60 in the A.M. and around 55-60 at about 4 when I am coming home....
AND if you drive the I-12 scene from walker into BR... I have NEVER gone under70......

The speed limit becomes an issue when people attempt to make left turns off Airline when there is not a turning area.
On countless occasions I have seen people slam on their brakes because 2-3 cars enter the middle ground and the 3rd car blocks the left lane.
Baton Rouge or St. George really needs to look into making it no left turns unless there is a turning lane.

Maybe so, but as of right now, those left turns are legal.
So you legally have people at a dead stop in the "fast lane". And the fast lane is legally doing 65.

I drive that stretch of airline very often, at least once a week typically. I don't get why you feel unsafe going 65. To me, what's unsafe is when I'm going 65 on airline and gramps is going 50 because he thinks that's the safe speed to go.

Do you see this often?

I-10 should be 75 everywhere...when there is traffic obviously you can't go that fast.
Airline should be 65 everywhere...where there is traffic obviously you can't go that fast.
Show us where people are dying on Airline in AP.
42...yes...some smaller roads with sharp corners...yes.

Yeah, except one is too stupid to be allowed to live and the other is doing 65 mph on a highway.
If someone can't figure out that going to the next changeover and executing a Michigan Left is safer than sitting at a dead stop on a fricking U.S. highway, maybe their gene puddle needs to dry up.
Also, I'm not convinced that stopping on a highway isn't against the law, I just can't find the proper citation in the La. Revised Statutes.

I like the way you think. I'm okay with there being NO speed limit on any road. Simply give the cops the authority to write more careless/wreckless when abused (which they already have.)
BUT, that's not the habit we're in. The habit we're in is to Expect to be able to drive whatever that number is on that white sign at any given time.
Unfortunately, MOST of the time, you can't drive 65 from BR to Gonzales. If for no other reason, there are 12 traffic lights.
I'd like to know where to get the fatality numbers.
Probably less in AP. I saw a bad wreck last weekend 200 yards north of Old Perkins. Limit is 65, there's a traffic light (with 4 left turns), and an exit to two different shopping centers (Canes etc and Half Shell etc).
Did they die? I don't know.
That's crazy to have that much traffic at 65 in one intersection.
And yes, the speed limit drops to 55 two hundred feet south of that intersection.

You may be right...
One problem with your theory is, which one really dies?
What about the cars stopped behind the ones turning left?

If I had my way, traffic incidents, no matter how minor, would have a very "Judge Dredd" feel to them. I figure if driving were more lethal, the idiots that cause most of the trouble would become a self-correcting problem. I've been told I'm a little off, though. You should hear my thoughts on safety devices on cars. (HINT: airbags replaced with spikes)

If you're the third idiot in line stopped on a U.S. highway, you're still an idiot. You just have two others who got there before you.
ETA: Using the plural you, by the way, not YOU.

That's just the legal limit - I see people going through there at 80+ every morning. I never see any cops out there enforcing it either.

You seem pretty smart, but this highway is usually very busy... changing into the right lane immediately isn't always possible.
I appreciate the comments. And I agree, GOOD drivers, paying attention can negotiate this stretch, often reaching speeds up to 65 mph safely.
Problem is...

But, but, but, I addressed this first in my last post!

Airline Highway from the new Woman's Hospital to Gonzales is the only stretch of road in the world where driver's refuse to drive the speed limit by driving 10 miles BELOW the limit.

I somewhat agree with your thoughts, but wrecks are expensive and us fine folks in LA already pay some of highest premiums...
and one of my kids might be in one of those cars...
If you don't have kids, I understand the apathy.

fricking people drive like its 55mph through that stretch anyways. Would cause less problems if they would do 65 or just gtfo everyone's way and take roddy road or some shite.
