quote:I absolutely agree. I don't think you'll hear anyone defend driving absolutely stoned. Just like drinking, there is a limit where you have no business driving.
I've seen some stoned people and there's no way they were any better off behind the wheel than a case-deep redneck. There should be some ultra-strict rule regarding how high you can be and drive.
quote:Also agree.
People are going to get it and buy it no matter what. Might as well tax it and let american farmers grow it.

Do you know how many blackout nights I've had?
Do you know how many fricked up situations I put myself into possibly being hurt or even killed because I was completely shitty?
Want to know how many times I've had no idea how I got where I was at?
I've smoked a few times, know what I did?
Nothing. Hung out. Ate some junk food.
I mean, this argument is recycled over and over again
I was telling someone this too, I've done a lot of crazy shite drunk. Most stuff we find funny now, but it was mostly criminal or dangerous.
Every time I talk of good highs it's like "remember how good that sour diesel was when we first tried it, we just sat there and watched spongebob all night"
Liquor it's like. "remember the time I had that drinking contest with Jaqcues and drank 32 shots of Taaka in less than a half hour? Well he had thirty two and then puked on everyone, so I won"
"remember when we got drunk in Baton Rouge and decided to drive to Laffayette to meet these girls, and we raced drunk, and I downshifted at 130 and my engine exploded like a bomb and we had to cram six people in the 3000GT to get home?"
"remember the time we got really drunk and decided to be WWF fighters, and David got his arm broke, Ray tore a tendon and I ended up with five staples in my head? (a real stone cold stunner is devastation, but not as bad as a drunk attempted shooting star press FTR)
The only dumb weed story I know is "remember that time I was smoking by my car on the parade route and this hot chick starting hitting on me, and then pulled out a badge........"

it's been shown that stoned drivers compensate for their impairment by driving slower, paying closer attention, etc. drunks don't do that.
I'd like to see that quantified.

And as long as the drunk limit is .08, the stoned limit should be strict as frick. I don't want potheads getting a free pass to drive and smoke while I'm hunting for a DD after two beers.
Equity bitches.

I wonder if once marijuana is legalized, will some of the paranoia that makes you drive better and pay more attention, will go away.
A lot of the anxiety and paranoia comes from fear of persecution while high. If there is no more fear of persecution, will stoned drivers still drive 10 under the speed limit all the time?

Drunk driving is worse than stoned driving. I've done a ton of research.
Drunk driving I'm likely to blow through an intersection b/c I missed judged the distance to stop.
Stoned driving Im likely to sit at that same stop sign and wait for the light to turn green.

People who think weed is worse than alcohol really have no clue what's going on. Can't explain it to them because they already decided.
As someone who has smoked for long periods in my life (up to 12 btw) and drank for even longer, here is my take. Been clean for 6 years btw.
First off, in the hands of the wrong people ie: irresponsible, underachieving, immature etc. they are both equally dangerous. I'm not going to go on and on why, in some respects weed is worse.
However, in the hands of responsible adults, I feel alcohol is more dangerous.
I'm not really going to explain myself, ain't typing that much. One can be a bigger gateway drug (both are), one has overdose potential. One may have a young man not leave his bedroom for a week, the other could kill a car full of children.
One could make spatial thinking better and IMO help with grades, while in different hands will make the user totally not give a frick about anything, and fail fail fail.
However, legalizing it would take some of the rebellious edge away from the IRRESPONSIBLE types and have it controlled.
We all know about alcohol. Furthermore, if someone is going to do it, they will. Time to stop arresting people for such stupid shite. If we can smoke cigarettes, weed is a no brainier.

Quite possibly. But if they set strict guidelines similar to alcohol, I think stoned drivers will still drive like stoners.

No, I've been to places where it's legal. It doesn't change although it could just be from years of conditioning.

I went and posted the link to where I found that. But the write-up is real, unfortunately.

I wonder if weed can contribute to lung cancer like smoking? I would assume anytime you inhale hot gases into your lungs it would. I realize you are not gonna OD on it, but just curious if anyone has gotten lung cancer from it. Of course, most pot smokers don't smoke the amount of pot that cigarette smokers do with cigs.
One study was done on the link between marijuana smoke and lung cancer, and the conclusion was the smoke likely had a positive correlation with lung cancer, but that the anti-cancer properties of marijuana canceled out whatever negative impact the smoke had.

With respect to comparisons between alcohol and marijuana effects, these substances tend to differ in their effects. In contrast to the compensatory behavior exhibited by subjects under marijuana treatment, subjects who have received alcohol tend to drive in a more risky manner. Both substances impair performance; however, the more cautious behavior of subjects who have received marijuana decreases the impact of the drug on performance, whereas the opposite holds true for alcohol.”

quote:
No one’s entirely sure how to explain these results. The dominant hypothesis is that people are more likely to be aware of—and, more importantly, compensate for—their intoxication when high than when drunk. Participants in one study who smoked one-third of a joint perceived themselves as being impaired, even though the experiment suggested they were not. By contrast, subjects who had two drinks thought they were fine, despite performing poorly in driving tests. In the driving simulators, pot smokers drove significantly slower than the drunk drivers, even with researchers reminding them to speed up. They also gave the car in front of them a lot more room and were less likely to pass. Alcohol, on the other hand, increases risk-taking behavior. Drunk drivers drive faster, tailgate, and pass recklessly.
quote:
In addition, legalization is associated with a nearly 9 percent decrease in traffic fatalities, most likely to due to its impact on alcohol consumption. Our estimates provide strong evidence that marijuana and alcohol are substitutes.
quote:
Laboratory studies have shown that cannabis use impairs driving-related functions such as distance perception, reaction time, and hand-eye coordination (Kelly et al. 2004; Sewell et al. 2009). However, neither simulator nor driving-course studies provide consistent evidence that these impairments to driving-related functions lead to an increased risk of collision (Kelly et al. 2004; Sewell et al. 2009). Drivers under the influence of marijuana reduce their velocity, avoid risky maneuvers, and increase their “following distances,” suggesting compensatory behavior (Kelly et al. 2004; Sewell et al. 2009). In addition, there appears to be an important learning-by- doing component to driving under the influence of marijuana: experienced users show substantially less functional impairment than infrequent users (Sutton 1983).

yeah lol this is a non argument , all you alcoholics stop trying to live vicariously through weed smokers, we know alcohol kills more users and innocents than weed ever did

Drunk driving is worse than stoned driving. I've done a ton of research.
I've driven on EVERYTHING. Acid, X, shrooms, cocaine, opiates, weed, pills, alcohol.
Alcohol is the worst. If you drink to much there is little you can do except stay in the lane in the middle of your triple vision. Acid is fun, X is a blast, pills can be tricky, especially opiates mixed with barbs (asleep at the wheel).
Alcohol mixed with pills IS the WORST. Alcohol with cocaine, acid, X, speed etc. actually makes it even better and turns you into quite a good driver :)
