I'm actually thinking about it. I'd party with you, Heady.

I can think of plenty that are better guitarist from a technical standpoint.

I just think the guy plays with a lot of soul. It's his rawness that I really enjoy. It reminds me of Hendrix a lot.

I will be at the ATL show Wednesday as well. It will be my 4th time seeing GCJ. Looking forward to it. I have a feeling he will blow up this year

Anyone who doesn't like GCjr is probably deaf.

I've been saying he will blow up for a few years now.

He is, slowly but surely.

I recognize the man's talent, and I've given him a listen, but I'm just not into blues rock.

It's an acquired taste for sure.

I wasn't always into it, but it has become my favorite genre by a large margin. It's certainly my thing as far as playing guitar as well.

There's no other genre with the amount of soul that blues has IMO. I'm much more blown away by a guy bending a few notes making the guitar sing over some guitarist flying through a million notes. Blues is all about feel.

Give this a try

This has a little bit of a Prince vibe to it

This is the performance that got me into him years ago

He incorporates a lot of blues of course, but the guy blends many genres. He sounds like early Black Keys, Hendrix, some R&B influences as well.

I was listening to him today and figured out that he also sounds a little like Lenny Kravitz.

The OP asked for opinions. I gave one, without being mean about it.

You on the other hand have mistaken me for someone you can take liberties with. Don't talk on TD like you wouldn't on the street, you punk bitch.

By shallow I mean his catalog. I don't think his compositions have any substance.

Obviously he is a great player. I would be fine with him being all instrumental.

Yea, his songwriting doesn't do a whole lot for me, but it's the blues and that usually isn't the focus.

I do think his guitar tone is too fuzzy. It kinda drowns out the other instruments.

I still wouldn't hesitate to see him live.

I'd rather listen to him than Joe Bonamassa any day.

He is damn good and is getting attention, but he doesn't hold a candle to what Anders Osborne is doing live.
