Ole Miss want to be in more way than one

quote:

The 1910, 1913, 1914, 1958, 1983, 1993 and 2004 teams are all under consideration. Each finished undefeated or won the conference championship, or both. All were recognized as national champions by at least one national selector, which are used by other schools to recognize National Championships.

quote:

“Minnesota added the 1904 title last summer. USC added the 1939 title in 2004. Ole Miss claims three national titles and not one is AP, Coaches’ Poll or BCS.

“Why should Auburn be any different? In this day and age, why should Auburn be so stuffy about it?”

It's pathetic, but who cares.

I'm glad we're about this bullshite, unlike the Alabama schools and Ole Miss.

Alabama also cites different selectors for many of its national championships before 1961 including Football Annual, Billingsley and Helms in 1925, Helms in 1926, the Davis Poll in 1930, Dunkel, Williamson and Football Thesaurus in 1934, and Houlgate in 1941. The 1941 Alabama team finished 9-2 overall, 3rd in SEC and 20th in AP poll.

At some point, all of the SEC will start claiming every national championship ever recognized by a selector who has recognized a rival team. It is up for the fans and the athletes to determine which ones are bullshite.

I'd like to see our comprehensive list and see where we stand with the rest of the conference.

If LSU went on a claiming streak - what would we be at - 7? (Claiming titles years later is a joke)

According to our media guide...

1908
1935
1936
1958
1962
2003
2007

1896 we were 6-0. '61 we went 6-0 in sec and 10-1 overall. Lost to Rice in the opener and ran table and won the Orange bowl.

They can join Iowa as a team whose claim to the 1958 MNC nobody respects.
