Question about frozen interstates in Louisiana:

when jindal called for a state of emergency (thursday?) doesn't that authorize for federal assistance?
if so, where was that federal assistance with salting the overpasses and roads?
seemed pretty ridiculous to have the interstates shut down on major interstates when just a little bit of planning could have gone a long way.
baton rouge was especially a joke with the unpreparedness
what do you think?

FedGov sent the salt trucks, but the ice had already melted when they got here.

I think it was a good learning experience.
Hopefully we will be more prepared for these situations in the future.
No reason to run to "daddy" every time you make a mistake.
"Why do we fall?"

look i'm not saying to run to daddy, but the epic level of unpreparedness was silly.
I guess when you live up north and see the stupid shite I saw yesterday it makes you wonder if the people running the show on a state level here have any clue as to what they are doing

Well it only happens every few years. Does it really make sense to gameplan for a rare event that's a minor inconvenience for most? I'm no fan of the Jindal administration, but I'm not gonna get worked up over this. It's gone in a day or two, whether they do anything about it or not.

Louisiana is as concerned with preparing for ice storms as Chicago is with preparing for hurricane season.

I thought it allowed them to call in the National Guard and make other moves more hastily within the state.

get these and don't wait for the government to help you.

Blanco held up on Fed assistance

I like the name Blankstare for blanco. On a side note Bayou Denny called a couple of nites ago and wanted me to thank you.

Except in cases of life and death medical emergencies I wonder why people can't just relax a day or two and let it melt. shite, work will still be there when you get back.

This. We have limited resources and have to use them in the most practical way.

bencoleman - Tell Denny we think of your family often. He'll probabaly not understand the blessing that experience was for us. God can take one situation and effect so many lives in different ways. That would have certainly been a tough one to go through from the side of your family. We hope they are doing well.

Why doesn't the Fed Government just require all Federal roadways/interstates "simply" be heated pavement?
Sounds like some shovel ready jobs that can hault BR traffic for another 15-20 years.

it would be pretty wasteful to be THAT prepared for this event in south LA

How do snow tires keep the interstates open?

I kige this.
My location has been the Landmass since 2006 and I've never seen the interstate freeze.

To have salt granules shipped in once every 5 years leading up to an ice storm?
I-10 being shut down Friday was completely insane

i'm sure we could have had some amount of salt transported here, but that's like 1/100 of the total issue
