Going to Yankee Stadium in April when the Cubs go to NY for two games.

What are some places around the stadium to grab a beer at or eat at?

Anyone been to the NYY Steak inside the stadium? Looks pretty decent...

Riding the subway there is one of the best experiences of the trip. Don't cheat yourself.

Nothing. The Bronx is a dump.

I have not been to a game in a season or two, but the stadium is nice (does not have the charm of the old one, but what can you do). There are some fun dive bars right across the street, but I would not venture more than a block or so away from the stadium (and really, there is no need to). The stadium club bars, etc. at the stadium are nice, but I've never had the steak there (I always enjoy getting the hot dogs).

Like others have mentioned, I would just subway it.

I don't really remember much except a McD's across the street filled with homeless people.

But yeah subway is the easiest way to get there. Just make sure to grab the express train if you're coming from the southern part of Manhattan.

I go to a lot of Yankees games, and the only pregame beers for me come from Yankee Tavern on the southwest corner of 161st and Gerard. It's the only place that's ever free of douches. It's mostly old townies and blue collar guys, most of them nice, and the bartenders are the least terrible in the area. Pretty good bar food, too.
