A good friend of mine who got laid off awhile back falls into the group that is currently not receiving benefits due to the extension not having passed a couple of weeks ago. Now DC is on vacation for a week. I hear the next vote won't be till the 28th. This has to pass at some point huh? He is starting to bug the crap out of me for money.

Why? Hasn't there been several extensions already?

So he wore out the entire extent of his unemployment benefit because he was just assuming that DC would extend it even longer? I haven't kept up on any unemployment policy talks the last few weeks, so this isn't necessarily meant to be a flame. Is that the situation; did I understand you correctly?

Unemployment is not welfare. Most people collecting it were working for many years and then lost their jobs.

Why SHOULDN'T someone who was working and paying taxes get some of that money back in the form of unemployment insurance?

The last time they changed it they reduced the number of weeks. I was on UI at the time, you know what I did when my UI ran out? I got a goddamn job, was it a job I liked?, yes and no. It was in sales, I HATE SALES because I hate dealing with the uneducated who think they know more than they do, but it was with Geek Squad and they are cool. I had to pay bills. When I finished school, quit that job at graduation and had a job in my field 2 weeks later.

Tell him to get a goddamn job.

Your friend is a lazy POS, apparently. He's been having benefits for 99 weeks. Tell him to man up and get a job.

I would guess that was 99 weeks ago. But then again awhile sounds better than saying 2 years ago. Your friend is a POS.

I could not imagine having a friend that lived on UE for 99 weeks and me not telling them to stop living off the backs of others. It's people like you and your friend that have drove this county into the ground. Him for taking it and for you not telling him to stop it.

After the benefits run out, friends and family should step in for hardships. Govt doesn't have a place in long term support, IMO.

Tell him the free market will take care of him. He should "just get a job".
