Here's a rule that needs to be changed. Personally, I've never understood it.

Why do they penalize kickoffs out of bound? If the kicking team doesn't kick it through the endzone, why are they further punished?

If anything, more kickoffs out of bounds could be sold as a player safety measure.

I know sports evolve all the time, but at this rate, NFL football will become barely recognizable.

Just think about how those guys from the Pittsburgh Athletic Club and Allegheny Athletic Club feel about all of the changes to pro football.

How about just make it so you have to go for 2 every time.

I don't think I'd like that. It make the game more fun though. But knowing the Chiefs, we'd frick that up.

"The extra point is almost automatic," Goodell said. "I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd (attempts). So it's a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play.

Yet another hypocritical statement by Goodell when you consider his stance on kickoffs

If the goal is to increase excitement, how do they justify not being able to return a blocked XP or turnover on a 2PC for 2 points?

Yeah, but past changes happened gradually up until 1978.

You need some consistency in a sport in order to satisfy the fan experience.

Since 1978, it seems that the rules have changed so much that the entire philosophy of football has changed. For a fan, you can easily lose interest in a sport if the rules are not consistent for long periods of time.

Yep. He basically made one of the most exciting plays in football pointless and his reason for changing the extra point is that its isn't exciting enough?

I like the idea of abolishing the kick after. I think the proposal in the OP is a bit silly though. Just make the E.P. a regular play.

Or better yet, your kicker and punter have to be a position player, someone who contributes to 30% of your offensive or defensive plays.

Limit the number of punts to 5 a game per team.

So no more extra points, no more kickoffs… might as well just eliminate field goals, too, and get rid of kickers altogether.

Lets just go intramural rules

No kicks, 1 point if you score from the 1, 2 points if you score from the 5, and 3 if you score from the 10

We're going to have to rename this game that used to be called football.
