and *gasp* Bubba Gumps
Ticket came, nothing comp'd, not even the gumbo. I'll never step foot in that place again.

Not within walking distance, but Mandina's is a good choice with kids. Huge menu and very casual. I like the food very much though there are some detractors. Otis will support me on this. It's a great neighborhood joint. It would be easy to get to as you can take the Canal St. streetcar to get there right where you are hanging out and a streetcar ride would be fun for the kids. Makes the meal a memorable occasion in my opinion. You can make a reservation there or just go early or later for your meal when it's not as crowded.

That will be one of the choices. At least we will feel a little grown up. Thanks for the help. Didn't want to live on fast food and pizza while there.

fantastic idea Gris. I hadn't thought about the street car. Hell, I enjoy that and I know the kids would.

So, it is like the Treehouse..but everything works?
I must say the last time I went to the TH, it was much improved.

It's been a long time since I've been to the NOLA children's museum, but when I went, it was quite nice and everything worked. I think they keep it up well or they did. The kids didn't get a big thrill out of the aquarium, but they LOVED the carriage ride and petting the horses in Jackson Square. Loved the clowns and mimes and entertainment. Loved Cafe du Monde, of course. They loved going to Arnaud's for brunch, getting balloons and having the trio sing at the table. If they'd had those bike taxis then, they'd have loved being peddled around in one of those. The streetcar, carriage and bike taxis are "rides". Most kids like "rides". The museum is good because they get to touch everything...their other favorite thing to do...touch EVERYTHING!

If they'll let them in, Barcadia. They can split a bigass burger, you can get one too, and ya'll can play some awesome old arcade games.

Well done Gris, thanks for the ideas. My kids LOVE fish though, so we gotta squeeze in the aquarium!

Definitely go there, then! Lots of kids love the place. Mine just weren't all that wowed with it for whatever reason. Consider the carriage ride, though. If you have a girl who is a Cinderella fan, it would be a big deal.

if they love fish, check out Peche. Its a block away from the Childrens museum

The best suggestions are
American Sector
Domenica
and if you want to do the streetcar
Mandina's
but Mandina's is a shell of its former self. Not bad, but . . . meh.

quote:There ya go. Take the impressionable young kids out for an educational day at the aquarium, then have them pick out a live lobster from the tank at Dragos to be killed and eaten. You'll have a couple of vegetarian kids on your hands in no time.

Oh, the boys understand the food chain. They are still a little redneck.

Cafe du mond is a must. My mom lives in the quarter and we take my kids there almost daily when we visit. Great coffee and people watching for y'all plus if you don't like beignets then there is something wrong with you.
