Top 5 Artists who died before their time?

Very very tough list to do, but just thought about it as I'm listening to Shannon Hoone. Prob will quickly go higher than 5, but who are the ones that died earlier and left sooo much potential behind?
Off the top of my head and I know I'm forgetting some...
Hendrix
Shannon Hoone
Lane Stanley
Cliff Burton
Bon Scott
Didn't count the likes of Cobain because I think he was further down his career... John Lennon was an iffy, but I don't know how much more was left after the Beatles.

You added an E there.
I'd definitely start with Shannon, then:
Jeff Buckley
Jimi
Bradley Nowell
Robert Johnson
Honorable Mention:
Tupac Shakur
Duane Allman
Otis Redding

How much bigger could Hendrix and Cobain have gotten? I don't think they qualify for this type of list.
Robert Johnson and Buddy Holly get my vote.

I think Hendrix had more potential being he was only 23 where as Cobain was 28 if I remember right... I discredited Cobain because I think he used up his talent very early, but I think Hendrix still had potential to grow... IMO
frick, I think Grohl is a hell of a lot better front man than Cobain... But again, thats just MO

For me, Hendrix had more to do with unfulfilled potential more than popularity. The guy was just starting to branch out and really explore himself as an artist. I just can't imagine what he could have created if he lived longer.

Dude the 27 Club man!
They were both 27 when they died along with Jim Morrison, Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin
It's crazy that in only 8 1/2 months the music world lost Hendrix, Joplin and Morrison

I hear you....i think blues would have always been the center of his music. His final recordings were leaning toward more of a funk sound if I remember correctly.

Randy Rhoads aspired to be a classical guitarist. He would have had the most interesting career arc.

Duane Allman. How much better would the already awesome Allman Brothers catalog be if Skydog didn't die over 40 years ago.

Hank Williams
Keith Whitley
Ronnie Van Zant
Stevie Ray Vaughn

Layne Staley and Dimebag had definitely peaked by the time they died

Better question... is there any up and comer in music today that people would feel the same way about?
I really can't think of one off of the top of my head

Jazz too. He had just started jamming with miles and shite.

This. This. Dude's playing and composition was magical. Don't think people who weren't alive when he came onto the scene know just how influential he was. Not as big as Eddie, but still huge. I'm still not really over his death after all this time. The classical stuff he would have put out would have been unbelievable.

Holly, Allman, and Hendrix are definitely the first three that come to my mind. After that I don't really have an opinion.
