I almost always use cursive, basically if I am making a list or just jotting a few things down it will be print, other than that all cursive. Jr high teacher wouldn't accept anything hand written unless it was cursive, never got out of the habit. Plus I think it looks better, FTW.

I don't think anyone past 3rd grade has ever bragged about their ability to write in cursive. Really, it should not be that big of a deal.

How will they be able to read someone else's cursive, either? Some of us still write that way (even though I pity the fool who has to decipher my horrible handwriting).

I mean.. I guess most signatures will look like someone typed it out ..thus created the ease of forgery..
My personal signature is so unique that most people can't understand what's going on..

Not a question of being difficult...just incredibly unnecessary. As someone stated earlier, cursive is just this side of calligraphy in terms of usefulness in the 21st century.
Not sure if it was accidental by the OP, but his use of "art form" was apropos in this case as that's where it art to be taught...art class.

I took the LSAT a few years ago and one of the things they made you do before the test was write a whole paragraph in cursive - something to the effect of not cheating - I've never seen so many near college graduates freak out. I just scribbled a bunch of m's and moved on.

My signature is the only thing I've written in script since the 7th grade. As soon as I got to high school it was right back to print.

Forgeries are hardly ever prosecuted based on writing samples. Plus, smart people have all important documents notarized to prevent accusations of forgery.

How long did it take you to learn cursive? I think it was about a one hour class for half of second grade for the school I went to. Not exactly a huge waste of time to learn a skill that provides you with the key to correspondence with countless people who still use it.
And since we're at it, should we quit wasting time with math? Why learn addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, when gadgets in your pocket or on you wrist can do it for you error-free?

I used cursive exclusively throughout my academic career (I'm 28).
I thought writing in print was slow and looked like shite. I can't write 6 page essay exams in print.
People are lucky they won't have to write that much as we go further on. I just don't know how my peers didn't use cursive to get things done since we had to use pens sometimes.

Now you sound exactly like my kids.
Also, it is faster and generally neater to write in cursive.

I have absolutely terrible handwriting, made worse by the fact that I'll lapse in and out of cursive and print, even in the same word.
My 3rd grade teacher cursive shamed me. That really stuck, so I still use it fairly regularly.
Even if they didn't teach it in school, I'd still teach my kids to sign their names.
