Glad I did too, because a large portion of the graduating class of my year from St. Michael's screwed up really bad grade wise and never got into good universities. Its not the education they're receiving, there was just a culture of "I don't care" among their student population.

Good to know.
I know a lot can change in 10 years, but the main thing i want for my kids is to go to a school where it's common knowledge this is just a stepping stone to college, and they are there to prepare for college.
As much as I hate my high school and the politics and drama crap, the one great thing they did was made sure you were prepared for college and they pushed you to want to get there.

Why these assumptions? Location?

yeah, didn't realize location doesn't matter much.

I didn't have an option to what catholic high school i was going to go to, there was only 1 choice.

There is no such thing as a "feeder" school to get into CHS or SM. There is a provision involving sports that if you live out of district you have to sit out a year because you are deemed a transfer student. District would be, is there a Catholic HS in the public school district you are assigned. I live in Woodlawn district, so am assigned to SM. Daughters went to SJ, so both had to sit a year out of varsity sports (one of the reasons CHS has an 8th grade). Some of the Catholic elem/mid schools are designated "feeders" regardless. For SJ, I believe it is St Jude and St Aloy (and one other). Don't have boys so don't know about CHS. But, if you live out of the parish, it does not matter (if I recall correctly).

When I went to Catholic the glaring difference between CHS and Bishop back then was if you went into the CHS student lot all the trucks were raised. If you went into the Bishop student lot all the trucks were lowered.

You're missing Aloysius, which is the only answer if you're looking to send your kid to Catholic.

Thanks for all the info.
We most likely are going to some open houses in the next few weeks so we can start the process of becoming a parishioner of the church to help ensure our kid getting in when he's ready.

I would take your kid to the open houses the high school provided in the fall. I believe they get invited starting in 6th grade. It's good to let them know that you are interested and so they know your face and your kid

I know I went in the 7th Grade to a few open houses, and it did a lot of good eliminating schools. By application time it was Catholic or Episcopal, didn't bother with any of the others. Nothing against the other schools, I just felt that those two were the best fit for me.

You may have already touched on this but do you already live near one of the schools? You really will want to live close to the school. I know it is a pain in the arse for the parents that go to our kids school but don't live close by. You don't realize how often the kids are wanting to do things with the other kids from that school, or they are doing things at the school. Plus that bus passing right in front of the house in the morning and afternoon makes life so much easier.
