Could Hill/Fournette be even better than Taylor/Cannon in 1957?

Hill/Magee/Fournette could be a trio that demoralizes opponents.

But LSU will need solid OL performance and at least a little down field passing threat to maximize the potential.

Two different generations but sure. My top 5:

1)Faulk/Collins
2)Cannon/Taylor
3)Hillard/James
4)Hill/Fournette (might be #1 soon)
5)Alexander/??(Had to put Charles A in there)

Thinking about what could have been with Collins really upsets me.

Geesh! Let him carry the ball once before we declare him Bugasiah. Hope he lives up to the hype.

Don't forget that QBs are considered part of the backfield

I think Hillard/James was way up there of those we've had so far.

I think (but I'm not sure) that Harvey Williams and Sammy Martin overlapped in their time here. If so, they may have been the most fun to watch if not the greatest. Both had speed and moves that could electrify.

Could be, but this was unreal when AB was in his prime. Hell, when AB and JV were both clicking it was ridiculous- I'll never forget South Carolina '03. Addai was basically fighting for a 3rd string position

I think most of this thread is discussing running back tandems, not backfields. To me that term applies to two (or three) running backs and a QB that were usually in the game at the same time.

I think the '57 "backfield" of Rabb (QB), Cannon (TB), & Taylor (FB) is hands down the best all-time.

Next would be the '05 backfield of Jamarcus (QB), Addai (TB), and Hester (FB) - Although Hester had a better year (at FB) in '06; same with Jamarcus at QB. It was TB by committee in '06.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the '97 backfield of Herb Tyler (QB), Faulk (TB), and Tommy Banks (FB) because I loved Tommy Banks at FB.

Isn't it funny how to me, judging the backfield on "greatness" depends on the FB. We've had numerous great QB's & TB's, but very few great FB's. When they come along they are fun to watch!

If you are discussing Running Back tandems, I'd go with Dalton Hilliard and Garry James.

Has anyone pointed out that Hill is not officially coming back and Fournette has not signed an LOI?
