The legalization supporters have repeatedly said the legalization of illegal drugs will take the monopoly of the majority of drug supplies out of the hands of drug cartels when legitimate businesses start producing and selling the drugs. This will destroy the profit incentive of the drug cartels and legalization will be the cause (reason) for a decrease in illegal drug prices.

The druggies will still have a financial incentive to buy from the illegal sources with their existing lower prices.
