To be honest buy any flush mount ceiling speaker that looks "pretty". Because obviously quality sound really does not matter.

Do what you want, but it will sound like shite. In-ceiling speakers are for making PA announcements and grocery stores music.

You don't have to get floor speakers. You can get in wall or on wall.

Bose sound bar FTW. Seriously. A lot of cha Ching but the sound is in friggin credible.
Unless you like highs and lows, of course.
I like JBL sound for the money, usually. Sony makes some damn-fine speakers for the price, too.

can we at least compromise and do flush-mounted wall speakers?

Proficient speakers are good budget speakers. Shop the internet for the best prices.

I own a set of Paradigm speakers. In-Ceiling and 12" subwoofer. Sound great paired to my Denon AV Receiver.

The key to in ceiling speakers is you can't run them too hard. They dont have the same response as other cabinet style speakers. You typically should do more speakers so each of them is putting out less volume. I found the polks give pretty good sound for the price. Recently finished a house and I put "Polk Audio RC80i 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers" in for the interior and did "Polk Audio Atrium 6 Speakers" outside. I still have my floorstanding speakers for movies and music but these give good low to medium music for fill and entertaining.

Home Stereo Speakers
People who spend a lot of money on things tend to think that what they own is the best.
Similar but related to the syndrome where somehow almost everyone lives in the best school district.

This is the most unmanly, unAmerican thing I have ever read. You hate the actual look of speakers? The frick is wrong with you?
There are very few things in life more beautiful than quality stereo components.

don't use ceiling speakers for your home theater.
They make LCR speakers for home theater applications. The are on a 15 degree tilt and work awesome. IMO frick looking at big bulky speakers unless you have a media room.
Everybody hears things differently. It's a lot like taste. You might love hot dogs and I can hate them. Same with speakers. I personally like the sound of a silk dome tweeter. But if you look at most manufacture's higher end series they never use those materials.

We are an Eaton / Cutler Hammer distributor and they have a line of speakers. I got a pair of 8 inch in ceiling speakers for 50.00 (our cost) for my kitchen and they sound great. Already had some in the den when we bought the house but I don't know what brand they are. They all sound great and haven't had a problem out of them yet.

In-ceiling speakers
Mirage Omnicans is the only answer.
They fire down at an adjustable angle and are omnipolar. The imaging is astonishing.
My system shocks everyone that hears it with the power, soundstage, and realism for movies, and the subtlety and immersion for music.
I would not trade them for any in-ceiling speakers in the world. Ive had them for seven years and they still blow my mind daily.
also I rec SVS subs, size depends on your room.
