Well, that a brutally tough way for Anderson to go out. He wasn't going to win the fight, but damn that was hard to watch happen. In a way though, it was/is a dramatic way to definitely close the book on the greatest career in UFC history over the first 20 years of UFC matches (1993-2013).
Fedor is still the greatest MMA fighter in the sports overall history for my money.
Anyway, can't believe how many people were picking Silva to win this one. Sorta blows my mind. At least maybe people won't say Silva was clowning around in the first one. He was beat in the first one and tried something desperate. Someone needs to bump that old thread from the first fight claiming Silva was better and would win the rematch.

We only got to see one round of a five round fight. You never know what could have happened. Anderson has given away the first round a number of times then warmed up and finished the fight. I'm not saying that would've happened, but you could already see Anderson starting to open up more.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. He truly had an amazing run. I hope he retires and doesn't try and come back. He's still a top fighter, I just don't want him to end his career like Chuck, Fedor, CroCop, Rampage, Tito, and the others who just can't let go.

Weidman is a better fighter. It takes two primary things to beat Silva. First is superior wrestling/takedown skills and knowing what to do on the ground. The second is range in the standup. Silva has great reach, especially with his kicking. A fighter has to be long to stay on the outside and match Silva's range to set up takedowns. No fighter can stand and out strike Silva for long.
First fight was predictable for those that really know MMA and Silva. This second one was just as predictable. If the break had not happened, Weidman would have pounded Silva as long as the fight lasted.

True, but like I said in the first fight (and before the first fight), Weidman wins 3/4 against Silva. 3 times, Weidman dominates the fight and pounds Silva and wins. 1 out of 4 Silva catches Weidman with a knee or kick and KOs him or hurts him bad enough to TKO him.
Weidman-Silva fights are predictable IMO and I keep saying that. It is the classic style matchup that favors the superior wrestler 3 out of 4 times when the wrestler is capable in the standup with enough range to keep from getting crushed while doing what he does best with takedowns and ground game.

Agree. I like Silva fine and would prefer to see him go out as a fighter that is still great and near the top, but was just beaten by a new dominant champion.

Over the years many people that "know MMA and silva" predicted Silva would get beat many times. It was always something the next guy in line had that could dethrone Anderson. Had Leites sub'd Anderson or Forrest bullied him around for three rounds. people would've been in here saying "I told you so". Just think about what I'm saying. Anderson is nearly 40 he couldn't keep winning forever. Had he kept winning til he was 80 then lost, you would've heard people say. "I knew he was a bad match up for Anderson"

I do find it interesting Weidman planned to check Silva's kicks this time. He knew Silva would attack his legs after the first fight. I'm not saying he planned to break his leg, but he certainly wanted to check the kicks more this time.
Just a long winded version of saying Weidman seems to be a very strategic fighter.

Checking leg kicks is not a strategy. It's something you're taught and told to do. Weidman did what 95% of fighters do in fights, check kicks

Not really. It's why so many were shocked at Sonnen Silva 1. Before that it was questioned who could actually take him down and avoid clinch.If Forrest would have it would have just shown that maybe lhw wasn't for him.
But Sonnen laid out the map how to dominate Silva. Unfortunately for us Sonnen fans he gets nervous at great success and always does one full retard moment during his biggest fights. Weidman is Sonnen but much more calm and doesn't out think himself into costly mistakes

Fwiw in his post fight he talked about focusing on the checks becsuse he thought silva was gonna ramp them up this fight
