No matter what happens Saban's next contract is going to change college football

The kind of money he is going to be making is going to cause a seismic shift in the coaching landscape. The big schools will be distancing themselves even further from the Boises and Louisvilles of the world. Ticket prices will go up even more. Assistant salaries will go up dramatically. The pressure will be at an all time high when coaches are making top NFL coaches type money. $5.5 million is the college ceiling right now. By next year that could almost double. Crazy times.

I thought his last contract changed college football?

Wasn't that more about not having a buyout? He's the highest paid coach but there are plenty on his coattails. IF someone throws $8-$10 million at him that will change things dramatically. Think of LSU for instance. They're voting on ticket increases now. We have a stadium expansion in the works. We're going to need to upgrade other facilities soon to keep up. shite's gonna get real expensive real quick.

This is situation is not normal and will not set a new bar. No other coach can ask for Saban type money and only a handful of schools can and will pay that type of money.
Agent "My client wants Saban money"
School President "Let me know when your client is Nick Saban and he will get Saban money"

It was only a matter of time before college coaching salaries passed pro salaries. Pro teams have 1 owner footing the bill. College programs have hundreds of multimillionaires to draw from.
Getting them all to agree on a coach is the hard part.

I'm not one of those who believes Texas would throw 10 mil per year at Saban. He'll probably end up getting a decent raise from Bama, but he won't be doubling his salary.

Doubling? No. Going to the $8 million range? Most likely.

So his salary will be an outlier, because he is an outlier. I don't think it'll be too dramatic.

It will take 10 mill to get him. They're not just luring him to Texas, they're having to lure him away from a top program. They need to come strong or they'll look foolish.

Yeah, not sure if Saban's next contract will really have an impact on the head coach at Temple or UConn.....

Well, if ANY of this shite is true he'll be in the $8 million range no matter what. Wasn't the inital Bama rumor a $2 million raise? That would put him at $7.6.

I'm saying if that happens and he makes 8 million per year, I don't think the residual effect will be that dramatic. Because any agent who tries to compare their client to Saban will get laughed at

the latest "insider source" is claiming it's a done deal at $12M/yr

Will Bama pay off his $183 bazillion debt?

Sorry you're a little behind. There's been some developments. I took care of Saban's debt.

I think the ceiling for a public amount is $7 million which is on the edge of getting to the point where a school receives very heavy criticism. I think like what was mentioned with Texas and the extra money on the side I think Alabama has some sort of arrangement where he'll get something on the side. I base that on nothing at all other than I'm sure there are creative ways to pay someone deferred compensation that isn't technically part of a formal contract. Sort of like agreeing to pay money into a nest egg account for every year he stays at Alabama and when he leaves cut him a check for this amount.
