Off the cuff thoughts about the Outback Bowl...

1. Should be a good game if your new QB plays well. Wish we could play you at full strength. Have heard that Jennings has potential and will have three weeks to prepare.
2. Don't sell this Iowa team short. I understand we don't carry the cache of other bigger brand schools, but our team is playing well and could very well take LSU's best shot and win convincingly (don't laugh too hard at that one please).
3. In particular our defense has really come on at the end of the year, limiting Michigan to 158 yards of offense in our game against them. We turned the ball over four times to keep it close, but make no mistake, you guys would crush Michigan as they just really aren't that good and you should get a better game from the Hawks (I hope).
4. Most Iowa fans were hoping to face Texas A&M due to the exposure Manziel would generate. We understand you guys are a quality program. Since it's been nearly ten years since we last played, at least the matchup isn't stale. Definitely should be good tailgating at least.
5. This is an Iowa team that is young and improving, with what I'm predicting will be a BCS bowl level team next year. I'll write more about the specifics of our team as we get closer to the game. Keys to know about at this point are three of the best LBs in the nation and a jr. LT that could enter the draft this spring.
6. Iowa is physical, balanced and limits penalties. They are a much better team now than they were to start the season and are likely a legit top 20 team that just lost to too many quality opponents along the way to be ranked (2 BCS qualfiers and Wisconsin). The Northern Illinois game to start the season really isn't relevant at this point in the season, but still counts against us obviously.
7. Hope you guys can look past the disappointment of the matchup to have some good discussion these next few weeks. Have really enjoyed the LSU fans we've run into the past several years. Should be a great time in Tampa.

Good write up. I really believe it will be a competitive game. If you post on any Iowa forums, tell the posters to join over here to make the weeks go by with some good back and forth.

I think it's safe to say Iowa is better than Arkansas and at least as good as ole miss.
Enjoy the game.

Competitive for a half. Then our talent will get us a 10-17 point lead.
No offense to Iowa. Our team is battle tested except for our young QB but I think cam gives him an easy and effective gameplan to execute.

No holding this time and hopefully this matchup signals a Saban job change

Good post. I hope LSU can stay motivated. Miles has to prove he can get the team motivated in the post season after disappointment.

Tell your people to stop talking shite about our tailgating.
That's some stuff to fight about

As snide as I want to be, I know this will be a good game.
However, I don't get the "this Iowa team will give us problems" sentiment. I know your boys will play us tough, but I don't see them gashing us up the middle like some do.
Also, if AJ10 plays like I think he can, your D is going to have a long night.
Short answer, I think the first half will be competitive. But LSU I think pulls away late.
38-24 type game.

Thanks for posting.
What type of offense does Iowa run?

Iowa does not have the great skill players / playmakers. We have to play ground and pound and then get the bigger plays on play action.
Its not uncommon for Iowa to line up with 3 tight ends. Our tailback (Weisman) is huge guy that will probably play Full Back in the NFL. Not real fast but very hard to tackle. We have 3 other Tailbacks who get a lot of PT.

I said before the announcement that I wanted to play Michigan because they would have been an easier opponent for us.
I actually think you guys are a bad match up for us. A physical offensive line that can run the ball gives this LSU defense problems.
On the flip side I was hoping our young QB would get to face a defense that wasn't too tough..... I don't expect many easy big plays for our offense in this game. Michigan would have been a much easier opponent.

I mean there is no doubt that LSU could play poorly enough to lose this game, but "LSU's best shot" includes a 14 point win over one of the teams playing in the National Championship game (that was 21 until a late score) and a 24 point win over the Texas A&M team that for some reason Iowa fans seem to consider a tier above LSU...

As much as I love the potential of Jennings, I don't see him putting up 38 in his first start. Mett rarely did that.
