University of Texas president Bill Powers on Thursday debunked the widespread rumors that the school is pursuing Nick Saban or has agreed to a contract with the hugely successful Alabama coach and said there has been no decision on Mack Brown's future as the Longhorns head coach.
"I've never met Nick Saban. I've never talked to Nick Saban. We have not hired Nick Saban," Powers told the American-Statesman on Thursday afternoon. "Mack's our coach, and I can say flatly that the rumors we have hired or come to an agreement with Nick Saban or even talked to him are false
Until I read this, I thought it was all a joke and just something to get the gumps riled up. Its pretty clear now that it is not a joke.. I almost feel bad for you gumps.
Saban is gone and your run is over. Oh well, could not happen to a more deserving bunch.

Why would the University President speak to Saban anyway...?

I live in Austin and have access to a number of premium UT sites. Everything I read indicates Saban coming is a done deal.
It's funny and sad at the same time--the big money power brokers started pushing this hard when the team was struggling early in the year and were crowing about their ability to get such a deal done. And now Brown might produce a Big 12 champ or co-champ team. After all he did for the program, to get pushed out like this is kind of f---ed up.

What would you people expect him to say if the rumors are true? "Yep! The current coach hasn't retired or been fired, but we got a new coach!"

I know right? All of their jizz jars are working over time and getting filled to the brim with this NS rumor to UT..Heck UT should hire Gus who is the real up and comer..NS has arrived and is over the hill...NS is driving a damn YUGO while Gus is driving the pimp bus
The hurt is palpable 6 days later.

This happens all the time. Saban flat out said he wasnt going to bama.
The season is still underway, some people still use class when making business deals.
They key in all this is him saying he has not talked to saban. Well no shite, you talk to his agent first. thats what they are there for.
im just happy one of the 2 fanbases i hate the most is going to commit mass suicide.

There have been multiple articles about how the Texas president was left out of the loop due to his diehard support of Mack Brown. So his denial is sad, for him, but worthless
From the Houston Chronicle:
From the Houston Chronicle:

Tom Hicks also noted in his memo that Hall had indicated that "several regents were in the loop" about discussions regarding potentially replacing UT-Austin football coach Mack Brown. None of the regents informed Powers that those discussions were occurring

Well, lets do the math here. Today is 12/7 and Saban was reportedly signed 8 weeks ago. Which puts that event right about the first week of Oct (which btw, is the same week Texas AD announced his retirement). And this article is from late Sept, so yeah, seems about right
And the Texas prez, probably isnt ready to go the way of the AD, so hes remaining out of the loop on purpose, at this point
Of course he will "hate to see Mack leave" and will also " thank those working behind the scenes to contact Saban", "just couldnt pass up the chance to bring on board the greatest fb coach evah"

Ive said it multiple times, but UT fans aren't going to be the most disappointed group when Saban is still in Tuscaloosa next year.

I'm not saying Saban is heading to UT, but that is about as bad a non-denial denial as you will ever see.
