Justin Blackmon

6007
207lbs
4.46 40

Hakeem Nicks

6006
212 lbs
4.51 40

Jeremy Maclin

6010
198lbs
4.45 40

Those are all official combine measurements.

OBJ is right in that physical wheelhouse of all of those guys, except maybe the 212lbs that Nicks carried.

The worst thing for a WR to have is inconsistent hands. Whats the biggest knock on OBJ? Inconsistent hands

I wouldn't say that plagued him this year. Last year, yes. in 2013, he was pretty damn reliable.

his ball skills on some of those longer routes will show up well on film, as well as his return skills. Also can play in the slot or outside.

And his official height at the combine will be an inch shorter than 5'11. Guarantee that.

Well, he's listed at 6'0", so if he were 5'10" he'd be 2" off his listed height. Which isnt rare, but i dont think he's that short. He's well built, has huge hands, and his arms hand to the ground.

Which Landry can do..... He will be a great player for many years at the team that takes him. Just NOT 1st round type though. I would rather him slip to the 3rd and go to A Team that is doing halfway decent.

Yea, pretty much the same #s i put out. I didnt get official heights, but was off 1 inch for Blackmon and Nicks. And i literally gave those exact same 40 times and pretty much the exact same weights. So all you did was re-list the height, weight, and 40 times that i used

And sorry but OBJ is not in the same physical wheel house as them, especially Nicks and Blackmon. And its not just there size that makes them physical. Its the way they play. They are extremely physical on the field. I mean Steve Smith is 5'9 185lbs and is 1 of the most physical WRs in the entire NFL. OBJ isnt a physical player. And, like I said, Maclin is 1 of the best pure athletes in the NFL and is 1 of the most dynamic players with the ball in his hands.

OBJ is not 5'11, and is not 194lbs. Dont care what it says on LSUsports website. When it comes combine time, he wont measure that height or weight. I mea according to that hes only a few LBs lighter than Jarvis and 1 inch shorter. And thats just not true.

And your looking at the physical factors way too much. The biggest negative with OBJ isnt his size. Its the fact that he has inconsistent hands as a WR.

Maclin and Wright are the only 2 WRs that you can argue / compare with OBJ that were taken in the 1st round in the last 5 years. And Maclin is 1 of the most explosive and dynamic players in the NFL, and is a legit 6'0 200lbs. And Wright is 1 of the best route runners in the NFL and arguably has the best hands in the NFL right now. And Wright looks to be a questionable pick right now because of the Kenny Britt situation. If they would of known Kenny Britt would be just about done, i doubt they would of taken him in the 1st round.

the same good team could draft him at the end of the 1st round that could at the end of the 3rd round.

Yes he improved at catching this year. But I still saw his drop a good bit of balls. Also saw him muff a punt vs UGA, and it just so happened to be a game changing play.

WOW OBJ is really listed at 6'0?? Thats at least 2 inches off.

I just don't get this. OBJ's hands are fine.

Don't know if he goes pro or not or where he'll be drafted but his hands aren't a concern.

If he is a first round pick he should go. If not he should come back as he will be for sure next year and it is worth an extra 2 million or more, o he would be getting 2 to 3 million to play an extra year at LSU

But you are proving my point.

In the last 5 years, only 1 WR was taken in the 1st round that wasnt the prototypical 1st round WR selection. And that is Kendall Wright. And they drafted him to be the #2 WR compliment to Kenny Britt.

You can use the size and 40 time all you want against Maclin, but hes still bigger, most likely faster, and just a better all around WR than OBJ. And is 1 of the most dynamic WRs in the league today.

So only 1 true WR taken in the 1st round the last 5 years can we even start to compare with OBJ, and he was taken to be the #2 WR on the team.

Do you not get the point of why i made the list and why OBJ will not be a 1st rounder? He would be very fortunate to go in the 2nd round too.

Are they improved from last year? Yes. But no, they are def not "fine". Dude has had some serious case of drops the last 2 years.

You said:

quote:

I mean look at the WRs taken in the 1st round the past 5 years. Kenny Britt, Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, Heyward-Bey, Dez Bryants, Demeryius Thomas, Julio Jones, AJ Green, Jon Baldwin, Kendall Wright, AJ Jenkins, Michael Floyd, Justin Blackmon, DeAndre Hopkins, Cordarrelle Patterson.

then said

quote:

Those guys fit either the 6'2+ 210lbs rangy/physical or they are 4.3 / big play guys with great hands.

none of them are 6'2" and none of the ones highlighted ran 4.3

in fact they are all 6', save Maclin, who was 6'1"

quote:

I didnt get official heights, but was off 1 inch for Blackmon and Nicks

you said both were 6'2", and they are both 6'0". That's a pretty big difference.

quote:

And sorry but OBJ is not in the same physical wheel house as them, especially Nicks and Blackmon.

He's averaging nearly 20 yards per catch, in the SEC.

Nick as a JR averaged 18 at north carolina

Blackmon averaged 12 YPC his JR year at OK St

I mean seriously, I dont think we are watching the same player. He's routinely made big play after big play, going up and getting the ball, out fighting the defender, etc etc.

But you say he is neither explosive or physical? I dont really get it.

quote:

OBJ is not 5'11, and is not 194lbs.

I think you are dead wrong. We'll revisit come April.

quote:

And your looking at the physical factors way too much. The biggest negative with OBJ isnt his size. Its the fact that he has inconsistent hands as a WR.

his hands aren't bad enough to out weigh his physical talent. He probably dropped 3-4 balls all year. Look at the plays he made: it outweighs it.

I know it probably won't happen, but if just one out of OBJ or Landry stays to earn better draft status, I would seriously like our chances next year of getting to Atlanta.

Sure they could. But it depends on needs for ANY team. Landry is good but the league isn't set up that way. The Bengals could use a second round pick on him and if they don't he may be around for the 3rd round. BUt I think he will go 2nd round to....................

well i guess it stems from you thinking he isnt in the 5'11" 195 range. What do you think his height and weight is?

Those other guys aren't physical freaks in terms of height weight. They are freaks because of their athleticism, which i think OBJ matches up quite well.

not only that but either one would be a biletnikoff finalist, and Jarvis would outright win the damn thing

and it'd go a long way for Jennings heisman

OBJ is pretty well built. Broad shoulders, long legs/arms, big hands.

he's 190 at least.

Hakeem Nicks

Blackmon

How great would it be if this years junior class all decided to stay at LSU doing the opposite of last seasons class. We would be something to be rekon wit next season

I would love to see Landry come back but if he does I can't see how he could possibly improve is draft stock. IMO Landry has just about hit his ceiling for any progression he's going to make in college, he's not getting any bigger or faster and his hands are already reliable and he runs good routes. He also blocks well. To me he's a solid Rd2 WR, and I don't see how he could possibly improve on that unless next years WR class is supposed to be very lacking.
