Seems like they have been in decline ever since he was hired.

If he doesnt finsish ranked next year and compete for the B1G then he will be. I think he is safe for now though. Odd as it is, his best years were with Rich Rod's players.

It's still one of the winningest programs in college football. The past two seasons have been unacceptable by their standards.

You mean the one where they hired a successful, proven coach and then immediately sandbagged him, pulled the rug out from under him, and never gave him a chance?

Michigan is lucky they haven't fallen further. They deserve to.

They almost pulled the upset last Saturday. That should make his seat just fine for another year. But if they go 7-5 or 6-6 next year and don't make any noise in the B1G, he should go. Yeah they got to 7 wins this year and are bowl bound, but were 3-5 in conference. Beat Akron by 4 and UConn by 3. They were 5-0 and went 2-5 down the stretch.

Same story last year. Finished 8-5 after losing to SC in the bowl. Air Force and UMass on their OOC schedule. But kept it close at Ohio State. At some point those close games to their rival have to become wins. His only win against them was his first year when OSU ended up 6-6, in the aftermath of the Tattoo-gate ordeal.

Whats his contract situation? I think he gets 2 more years.

Next year they will want to see improvement, and year 2, fighting for B1G.

If he loses to MIchigan State next year and loses 4 games he's gone. Losses to Ohio State don't bother Michigan people as much as losses to Michigan State. They see Ohio State as an equal and they don't respect Michigan State and see losing to Michigan State worse then losing to Ohio State.

They may like beating Ohio State more but they hate losing to Michigan State more. Don't forget the decisions makers at Michigan live in Michigan and the losses to MSU are more painful than losses to Ohio State.

Good posts from Ralph and genro. I am actually one of the few who thinks Rich Rod was set up to fail and he could have turned it around if he got the chance to hire a new D coordinator. That 2011 season happened because of a soft schedule, though Greg Mattison helped.

The Ohio State game definitely got Hoke off the hot seat for now. The question is, does the performance of the offense in the Ohio State game save Al Borges' job? With the body of work this year, I say no.

Probably because of the arrival of new teams and a nine game conference schedule, Michigan has to go back to East Lansing next year. ND and OSU are road games. I have a tough time seeing them win any of those, but the rest of the schedule is cake. 9-3 with a win against MSU or OSU will keep Brady. Losing all three gets him fired IMO.

Yeah that one. Even with RR was set up to fail Hoke's time has still been leaps and bounds better.

^^^^^ Someone who gets it.

I read a bit of John Bacon's book on the Rich Rod era and it was a fascinating insight into how UM administration pretty much sandbagged him from the start.

UM seems very much like USC in that they have this misguided obsession with recreating the past by hiring familiar faces from the glory years (ie Moeller, Carr, Hoke). Rich Rod aside, they haven't made an out-of-the-box hire since Schembechler.

Yep. They got a great coach but their damn arrogance of "We're Michigan! He's gotta do it the Michigan way!" wouldn't let him do his job. Their arrogance is to blame for the failure of the Rodriguez era, and for setting back a great coach's career.

RichRod hired Greg Robinson, not the people demanding it be done the Michigan way.

Everyone loved the offense, it was the defense that was unacceptable.

When Hoke is gone, I think UM should pursue Boom.

Rich Rod and his EGO are his own worst enemy. Rich Rod's failures are due to his stubbornness and inability to make appropriate in-game adjustments.

Granted, Michigan would do well to drop the whole "Michigan Man" charade.

Michigan, Florida, and Nebraska should all be looking for new coaches in my opinion.

sadly, they all have been notified they will still have a job next year.. for Hoke and Muschamp this is their last chance though. Its bowl or bust for them. Pelini is a little more safe due to the players liking him (for some reason), it all depends on the coaching landscape next year.
