I remember seeing this picture of Babe Ruth at Lou Gehrig's funeral in a book when I was young and it really had an impact on me (the seriousness of death, how illness can take away a strong healthy person, be ready for death, etc.)
Lou and the Babe in happier times......

quote:This was taken on Lou Gehrig Day in 1939 ("The luckiest man on the face of the Earth"). The two had finally reconciled after not speaking for many years, even when they were Yankee teammates (Ruth had made a milldy critical remark about Gehrig's mother, and Lou immediately stopped talking to him).

Ricky Rudd hurtling through the air during the 1984 Busch Clash at Daytona.
Ricky a week later at Richmond. He had very swollen eyes and a bruised face due to the g-force of the previous wreck trying to pull his eyeballs out of his fricking skull. So, like any other rational human being, he taped his eyes open so that he could race. He would go on to win the race at Richmond.
And that, children, is why drivers involved in a wreck must go to the infield care center.

Three-foot, 112-pound Bobby Martin played on punt and kickoff coverage and was the backup varsity noseguard for Dayton's Colonel White High. Born without legs, he can't wear prosthetics because he has no thighs to affix them to.
