Someone 'Splain to Me What I Just Saw (our D)

This was so out-of-family from what I've seen for the first 10 games I'm just trying to understand how'd we/he (Chief) did it?
Was it scheme? Matchups? Weather? (taking a likin' to this stiff, wind-driven dew stuff). Did someone just put the plug in and now all the lights on the tree came on?
Whatever. Great effort Tigers! Keep it up.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icongeauxtigers.png)

Welter still looked pretty bad

Young defenses benefit greatly from playing at home. Defense played very well at home against auburn, Florida, and A&m.

If JFF connects on a few of those passes tht his wrs dropped it may be a different game. It kept them out of rhythm all game.
Our dbs did an awesome job though. Many times JFF had nobody to throw to and the dl played their containment well

Improving, but rain helped a lot. Manziel seems to have smallish hands. Hard to throw the college football without Mett size hands when it's cold and wet

Moist field conditions negated Texas A&M's speed advantage on the outside. Their receivers' ability to make cuts and burn our vulnerable corners was negated. Johnny Football could still get up to straight-line speed, but he couldn't juke or maneuver as well without stumbling or slipping. This slight speed reduction enabled our linebackers (particularly the middle one) to be more capable of keeping up in coverage.
Their offensive line has never been dominant. Our defensive line played with passion and had their best game of the year. With less time to throw, a wet ball, and less ability to evade tacklers, Johnny Manziel made less accurate throws. This led to a reduced completion percentage and 3rd down conversion rate.
LSU's power run game was optimized by the conditions, allowing our larger offensive line to routinely push back their undersized defensive line. This led to more first downs, less pressure on the passing game, fewer incompletions, and more time of possession for LSU. Johnny Manziel can't produce points while his team is on defense.
Short version:
Defense was motivated, offensive game plan was perfect, weather gave LSU an advantage due to scheme.

The defense came together and played as a TEAM and not INDIVIDUALS. They finally trusted each other and Chief to do what they are there to do. I was very impressed with the D and even more so that it was against Little Johnny. The commentators were making me sick with all the praise they were giving to the Aggies. Our team made a statement, we are and will always be a force to be reconed with. I just hate to see it all come together so late in the season for them.

one thing that has been overlooked and i think more important than scheme, is that the tackling was much MUCH better. Before Saturday it was abysmal. i really do think that as bad as the scheme was and as lost as our players were in both the UGA and Ole Miss games, if we'd tackled better we'd have still won both of them.

Too bad Chavis didn't think of this defense for the Mississippi game. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconviolin.gif)

There were also a lot of missed plays by A&M. Dropped balls, missing wide open guys, etc. way more than the norm from what I remember watching anyway.
Not trying to take anything away from what the defense did, because I think they played their best game by far, but had A&M made a few plays they should have, I think it would have been more of a "norm" game for us this year. I think them missing some of those key opportunities put them in a hole they couldn't get out of. Just my take, I still think they looked improved overall.

Negatigers will say that Johnny Football was throwing against the wind (he was) in the fourth quarter when they were trying to come back. That is also the reason that Evans couldn't run his routes.
