Roth IRA

I'm looking to open a Roth IRA account, any recommendations of who I should go with? Seems like I can do it all online without the help of an investment professional, but since I have no experience with investing it may be best to meet with someone. I currently live in The Woodlands, TX. I haven't started saving anything yet for retirement and would like to start asap. Thanks for the help guys

Vanguard or T. Rowe Price

Vanguard is where my Roth IRA is. I'm 28 and I have the Target Date 2050 fund. Set it and forget it. Contribute the max each month and if you can't afford the max, at least contribute something, even $50, each month.
Good luck!
Good luck!

After looking at Vanguard, seems like that's the way to go. Thanks again

You need 3000 to open a vangaurd roth initially, with a few exceptions Star fund for example only needs 1000.

And target dates
or he can just pick his own index funds because that is what is in targets anyway. Good either way.

I'm pretty sure Target Dates don't need minimums either
Vanguard gives you lots of options and extremely low fees

Looks like you can actually open an account up thru Vanguard with $1000. Am I missing something?

No I didn't mess up, I said the Star fund for example doesn't need 3,000. Target funds are another example. Most others require 3,000

How much money do I need to open a Vanguard IRA®? $1,000 for any of the Vanguard Target Retirement Funds or for Vanguard STAR® Fund.
$3,000 for most other Vanguard funds. (Some funds have higher minimum investment requirements.)

Quick sidebar while on the topic of Roth's.
I recently opened a Roth with Fidelity. Our co. 401k uses Fidelity so I figured it would be best to use their services.
I haven't funded the account yet, I did set up direct deposit to the account but the first contribution wouldn't be until 11/30.
Since that time, I have reviewed fund options and feel the Vanguard target date will be my primary fund. If I purchase through Fidelity, I will incur a fee on every purchase. I want to avoid this, obviously.
My plan is to close my Fidelity Roth(zero balance) and open one with Vanguard.
Has anyone ever done this, fees involved? I'm curious about this process. Hoping I can just call and cancel.
TIA.
I set up direct deposit from work

This thread got me interested in starting one up with Vanguard. I have put into two 401k accounts at previous employers. Anyone ever roll previous accounts into a new account before? Not sure how to get this party started.
