I grew up in BR going to LSU games with my family in the late 70s and early 80s. During that time, the experience of winning was the farthest thing from our mind. Going to see LSU play on a Saturday night with my family, tailgating, yelling for the Tigers and just enjoying the whole event was something that was a very special part of growing up. As I got older, I worked concessions earning money for school programs and then got to sit in the student section for 4 amazing years. I got to cheer for a few good teams, and there were a few good seasons but when I bragged about being a Tiger it was more coon-arse bravado than what the win/loss record showed.

After Saturday, I still love the Tigers. However, growing up a Tiger (and Saints) fan when I did, you learn how to love everything but the wins and loss record. I have been to every SEC stadium, most of the PAC-12 and a few other top-line Football places, and I would rather spend Saturday night cheering for an 0-12 LSU team at Tiger Stadium than any other place in the country. For those that believe that the magic of Tiger Stadium has anything to do with the football team, you need to get out more.

fantastic post!

It literally takes me 5 minutes to get over a loss. The only one that really stung was 1/9. That was a bad situation/night/everything.

This thread is the Miles aplogist trotting out their new excuse, "if you get upset we are losing then maybe the games mean to much to you". To that I say bullshite, a loss to Ole Miss and getting processed by Alabama is NOT acceptable to people that like to win at sports and in life. Why do they keep scored in football games? because it matters who wins. Or maybe we can get a participation trophy?

This seems more like projection, than having anything to do with what the OP is saying.

I didn't see it as having anything to do with the point that fans can't be pissed and think LSU should get a new coach if that is appropriate.

Great post, Charles. People need to get a grip and enjoy supporting LSU football and all the fun that comes with it, as that's what it's really about.

I imagine most of the people who have lost perspective are either teenagers or miserable old men who don't have much else going for them in life. The game is played by a bunch of college kids we don't know. We have absolutely no control over what happens. Don't tie your life to it.

People like you are the point of this thread. Do you know what "vicariously" means?

You have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the team winning or losing. But you claim their victories as your own, like that makes you a better person because you are a fan of a team that won a game.

Sadly, a little. Not like I used to. I accepted defeat midway through the 4th. I couldn't sleep Saturday night. It wasn't consciously bothering me, at least, I didn't think it was. I think it's the realization that the program is trending down. Lsu football is important in my life. Probably too important. College football is cyclical. We'll be back. Anyone that's wants to see full delusion, talk to a bammer. They literally measure their self esteem by their teams' success. I have a Facebook friend that is an "internet badass" because his football team is better than yours. The kind of guy that's probably been in fights from running his mouth about his fandom. He really puts things into perspective for me.

You don't pay a coach over 4 million a year because it's unimportant to people.
