Last year was a reality check.

Had you told me 2 years ago or so there'd be a season we'd lose to Ole Miss' 2nd team and get beat 38-17 to Alabama, I would have probably been furious.

This year, meh. It is what it is. Like others said, I'm numb to it. Love my school.

To the OP, no.

My experience began as a child listening to games on the radio with my dad (too poor to take all 6 family members to many games). Incredibly fond memories with "the voice of the Tigers John Ferguson and Walter Hill". Success then was about beating rivals and getting a good bowl game - not so much winning championships.

Then I attended/graduated from LSU (BS Chem Engr, '85) and even lived in TS (SS #239) several semesters. So from childhood it's always been my school and my team and my traditions, and fun and disappointments.

I suppose the fun of winning NC's wouldn't have meant as much without the disappointment of getting ragged by my OM friends leaving MS Memorial Stadium in '75 (13-17L to OM) and the like over the years. I still get just as thrilled seeing TS for the first time on the way to a game as a starry-eyed boy in '70.

I don't think I live through it, I just deeply identify with it and pull for its greatest success.

It can bother you, but once the game is over, its over. Getting upset and pissed in the days after isn't going to change the outcome.

I do too and have my line/threshold established. To see so many people here make vicious attacks at one another simply due to a differing opinion on firing Les is stupid.

I've had season tix 40+ years. It's a game...it's entertainment. If you no longer feel entertained, then quit watching it. I want LSU to win every game, but it's entertainment for 3 hrs, 13 times a year. I feel sorry for those who let it rule their life.

There is no point to get mad anymore since we aren't winning a NC until saban leaves

Any Tiger fan that said they weren't a little pissed after 1/9 is lying.
Its more about what could have been as opposed to the actual game itself. The SEC title was great but ruining that perfect season is what most ppl really mourned.

During the game, I was really bummed out. LSU could have been known as one of the greatest teams ever. But will now be forgotten completely. Just didn't get why we got manhandled. After the game I called one of my friends and talked about the coaching strategy (or lack thereof). But then I realized that it's just football, and has nothing to do with the outcome of my life. On Jan 10th, I was fine.

This is a great question and parallels a thread I've been wanting to make about WHY we are LSU fans in the first place. I think both answers are similar for many people.

For me, no...I don't. I love LSU football. I enjoy the ever-living shite out of wins (I cried like a damned 11 year old girl standing in the Superdome in January 2004) and I am depressed by most losses.

But what I've NEVER tried to do is equate my own self worth with the fortunes of LSU football. That is to say...I'm not a fan so that my self association with LSU football can be lorded over fans of OTHER programs when LSU is doing well, and I've never once felt EMBARRASSED because of my self association with LSU football because of a loss...ANY loss. I am a fan because the entire endeavor brings me joy. when I walk through my portal to go to my seats in Tiger Stadium each game in the fall, I'm immediately brought back to that first game I attended as a 12 year old with my dad in 1982...that feeling of watching this enormous stadium spread about before me. I still get that same anticipation...I'm still excited every pre-game when TGBFTL marches out onto the field.

I am a fan of LSU football.

None of that has anything to do with enjoying mediocrity, settling, etc. It simply speaks to WHY I'm a fan...and since I'm NOT a fan specifically because of wins and losses, I'm seemingly more stable and less prone to hyperbole on this subject than many here.

They have not been successful and try to replace it with their team's success on the field of play.

sad but human nature I suppose.

This is the key. Either they were high school athletes who never made it and are trying to live through current athletes, or just have sad, boring lives.

No, they don't make threads like this because there's not a SINGLE ONE OF THEM who has the perspective of the OP.

You never need to feel sad for someone with an extra room.

Well said. I am a fan because I have lived here all my life and went to school here. I have emotional ties beyond winning. I still get chills hearing the pre game song or watching hype videos. And none of that has anything to do with who the coach is or how many games we win.

Sorta sad that some LSU fans can no longer appreciate a season that includes beating Auburn, Florida and possibly A&M.
