idea for a utility trailer.

mopar sells these utility and camper trailers for jeeps. they're about 10k
i've got a scrambler project that i abandoned that's just collecting dust in my shop. i want to cut the tub and frame and build one of these or something like it.
here's my quandary: i wanted to use a used dana 44 axle so it would match my jeep's axles (and look petty cool). should i remove the ring and pinion? or should i just leave them in 'til the gears go out? should i just weld a plate on the ends and go with hub and bearing assy? can that handle a 35" tire?

I'm sure the axle would be fine as is. Axles go for hundreds of thousands of miles with no issues while dealing with being driven, not just dragged along. I would think that it'd be fine as is. It'd take a longgggggg time to put 100k on a trailer.
Hub and bearing would work and you could make it handle the big tire if you built it right of course. I like the idea of leaving it as-is more though.

Cut the frame and use everything for the trailer. Maybe you could put new springs if you wanted, but I'd just leave everything like it was.

I agree with this. I'd just buy and axle and make a fake chunk to put on it, but that's far less interesting and fun.

im serious as shite.
the scrambler is totally torn down. body is off. i was in the midst of a total restore/mod build. i've got 2 1/2 inch YJ springs already and 2 14 bolt full floaters for trade. i think the dana would cool as shite with a matching diff cover.
the brake lights are already there, the spring perches are there, i've got the frame, all i'd have to do is weld up the tongue. i need sheet metal to close in the front of the bed and some wheels and tires and of course the dana 44.

Cut the chunk out of a junkyard 44 and weld it to a regular trailer axle
I'm thinking the gears in that thing will be more than able to handle a good many miles

i've got a 44 but it's a front axle narrowed for jeep/scout and matches my 14 bolt C&C. i guess i could just use it and remove the tubes and axles and weld in pipe and hub and bearing assy's

not necessarily. Tires/wheels would be interchangable with your jeep, if you left the shafts in the axle you could swap them out when you snap one.

I can get the spare off the back of the jeep and have an even greater entry angle. I can't fit a 35' on the back with the current bumper I have anyway. I just think I could make it a badass little 6' trailer to carry camping gear , cook ware, bikes, shovel, jack, ice chests, etc. without compromising the limited room I have in the jeep for personel and such.
I think I'm going to go with a full width Dana 44 and run stock gear in it for a while just to see how I like the looks of it. If need be, I'll swap it out later. I'm going to remove the yoke and just let the threads and nut spin.
Anyway, it's decided and I shall begin working on it next week. I'll keep y'all posted with some photos.

You're overthinking what I was saying.
Take your basic old standard trailer axle. Take a cut out D44 diff, and hack it to where you can put it over the axle for cosmetic purposes.
