On September 28, 1984, Miami Vice made its premiere on NBC, and a new kind of cop show was born—one in which grown men weren’t afraid to pair pastel Ts with white Armani suits, music was an integral part of the storytelling, and pet alligators and sweet Ferraris were all within reach of an undercover narcotics officer. The show, which for the most part still holds up today (well, the first three seasons at least), is also famous for giving a break to dozens of then-unknown young actors who’ve since moved from the underbelly of South Beach to the top of the Hollywood A-list. Here are 27 of them.

The link has youtube clips, screen caps, and more details regarding each actor's appearance, but here are the 27 listed:

Full Metal Jacket is a 1987 war film produced, directed and co-written by Stanley Kubrick. It is an adaptation of Gustav Hasford's 1979 novel The Short-Timers, and starring Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Vincent D'Onofrio, R. Lee Ermey, Dorian Harewood, Arliss Howard, Kevyn Major Howard and Ed O'Ross. The film follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their training and the experiences of two of the platoon's Marines in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War. The film's title refers to the full metal jacket bullet used by infantry riflemen. The film was released in the United States on June 26, 1987.

And there are other, more cameo-ish (if I can use that word), acting performances by rock stars, Ted Nugent (who appeared in a film called Nomads, the same year as his Miami Vice Appearance) and Phil Collins (his first credited acting appearance as an adult, having appeared on British television as a child).
Both were fairly good performances, and I credit the writing/directing teams at Miami Vice of generally delivering a quality (although horribly dated by now) multimedia product in the early days of the MTV generation.
ETA: G. Gordon Liddy, too, has his first credited acting appearance in a 1985 episode of MV.

A lot of these actors may have appeared on Miami Vice but for most of these actors, this was not their start.

Laurence Fishburne was on MASH in 1982.

VIGGO MORTENSEN first appeared in the George Washington Mini-Series in 1984, Miami Vice appearance was in 1987.
I think all the list is miss leading, as more than 90% appear else where first.

Yep. That list is shite. Fishburne was obviously fricking wrong.

I'm going to dispute the list based on the one person I checked.
Heck Ermey had roles in The Boys in Company C and Apocalypse now not to mention being in Full Metal Jacket the same year.
Seems like that list is probably closer to a see which stars were in Miami Vice list and not a got their start.
Same for Julia Roberts. Per IMDB, she had a few small roles before Miami Vice and she did Mystic Pizza the same year.

Curiously unlisted is Dana Delany, who cites her MV appearance as her big career break
And here is a pic

You sure she didn't say Magnum P.I.?
She was on tons of stuff before MV came out and to top that off.... She isn't listed on IMDB for appearing in MV.
