Pelini had good defenses in 2005 and 2006, and the first half of 2007. Then it fell apart and the defense nearly cost LSU the NC.

he had the #3 defense 3 years in a row. yup, he was horrible.
yes, that 2007 team gave up some points and was not great in the red zone but we had some injuries.

Honest question. I think Chavis is better than Pelini, but our last 4 losses have the defense on the field and cant make the critical stop. It's got to be a play calling/scheme type of problem. Our "very proud LSU defense" has really let me down as a fan. We've recruited 5 stars on the defensive line but they havent produced as well. So who do we blame? I say it's schematic.

He is not that good...
his D was good the first year and arguably the 2nd and started being figured out...he did not have anymore in the mental tank

We actually had some '3rd and Pelini's". I'll never forget the loss to Arky in '07. we had them in a third (or fourth) and long and they convert easily in ot for the win. It was quite frustrating.
