I didn't read 13 pages so this may have already been asked, but what are your favorite non Final Fantasy RPGs? The aformentioned Tactics Ogre is my favorite with Suikoden II at a close second. Star Ocean II and the Lunar series are also dear to my heart.

Xenoblade, Tales of series, Suikoden III, Dragon Quest 8.

What did y'all think of ff12?

The worst one of the series in my opinion, and it's not even close.

Play the ones without ATB and you'll think differently. Never know when each character is going to attack or heal can frick you up when you're fighting against bosses. Plus, at least in III, pheonix downs are not easy to come buy. I use the word buy there because you can do it.

I forgot to answer this.

Persona 3 and 4, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Nier, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Xenosaga, and there's more.

I'm about halfway through both of these games and really enjoy them.

Nier

I've been thinking of picking this up but reviews seem to be mixed. IIRC you have said that this is one of your favorite games - so what is it you like so much about it?

Reviewers are super dumb and the great majority didn't complete the game. ( Case 1)

I like everything about it. The music is just fantastic and sets the mood and tone of the world better than anything I've experienced. I loved the story and characters very much. The dynamics and relationships in the game are very endearing and emotional. Also has fantastic English voice acting -> LINK

The gameplay is very cool. It's an action RPG that controls similar to how you'd expect a faster paced Zelda to play. You also have magic attacks and dozens of weapons to choose from. There's also a few puzzles and platforming that is also fun. The boss battles are intense and varied that each take a bit of a different approach to beat.

Only downside is that some of the side quests are that fun. Some complained about the graphics, but I thought the game looked good.

I could really go on for a very long time about how much I like it. Just don't tell me I didn't warn you when you're tearing up at Ending C and D. It's a steal at $10-15.

Forgot all about Musashi. My buddy had it and he loved that game so much he'd never let me play. I would just sit back and watch repeating "come on man let me play."

One of my favorite games ever. Amazing soundtrack, Very fun gameplay, and a good story even with everything being named something ridiculous.

I just realized I never mention the one that always get passed over by Chrono Trigger... Secret of Mana. That is actually what got me started playing RPGs.

I've always thought Secret of Evermore > Secret of Mana.

I don't like having to "buy" magic over and over.

Buying the ingredients did get old, but I think I just loved the atmosphere. And how you could go to different eras in time and your dog would change.

Ivor Tower music

Ebon Keep music

The areas and music were so dreary and dark. I loved that about the game.

Its still hard to beat this cover art though.
