Lately when it's come to console, I've played nothing but sports games (NCAA, Madden, NBA 2k), but I want to get back into a different genres.

I want to start on a new final fantasy game. The last one I played was FF 9. It was ok. I absolutely LOVED VII.

I was looking at reviews for XIII. Looked pretty good although I've read a lot of complaints about it being linear, annoying characters, etc... I'm not that picky of a gamer, so I'm not sure I'd share these sentiments, but don't want to waste my time either.

I have gamefly, so I'm debating on trying it regardless. Do you have to had played XIII for XIII.2 to make sense? Is that one better?

Feel free to open this up as a generic final fantasy discussion for all the games. I wouldn't mind talking about VII. Never gets old.

Yes, but XIII makes no sense even if you played XIII (It actually isn't that bad of a story once you read up on it).

I didn't think so, but I never beat XIII-2.

Lightning Returns looks awesome!

I wish they would set a release date in the West for FFX.

XII was awesome. I wish they were still like that.

I think XII is for ps2 only isn't it? Otherwise, I'd play it.

Since I have gamefly, I may just give XIII a shot for now.

I wish they would completely remake VII with today's graphics. I'd buy it.

If you like action RPGs, you will like XII.

How old school are you willing to go?

I recently finished Chrono Trigger (made by square too) on playstation and had a blast playing it.

If you loved VII, then you should probably play FFX next. Those are two of the best. But if you haven't played Chrono Trigger, you should give that a try.

I played the shite out of VII, a little of VIII and some of IX. I want to try some of the newer ones for newer consoles.

XIII is good. I enjoyed it. XIII-2 wasn't bad either. Not as good, but still an enjoyable game. You definitely need to play VIII and X though. Older or not, they're better than XIII (not VII though, nothing comes close.)

Give XII and XIII a try. You may love it. Personally, I didn't like them, but I'm super old school.

I still don't quite get what there is to like about X aside from the music and visual presentation.

The convoluted story would have been worth investing in had they not insisted on using Tidus as the focal point. He was way worse than Vaan, because I could at least deposit Vaan in the menu screen about 3 hours into the game and forget he had a speaking voice until the next cutscene.

Wait till FFX-HD is out on ps3.

XIII was terrible. And I love FF.

The more I talk about FF, the more I want to go back and play VII

I'm gonna grab XIII from gamefly and see how it is. Worse comes to worse, I'll mail it back in

I'm with you. X would probably be 6th on my list of favorite FF games.

1) 6
2) 9
3) 8
4) 4
5) 7
6) 10
7) 5
8) 12
9) 2
10) 13

I'd play the older classics first. Since you didn't grow up playing them, there will be no nostalgia to keep you playing. Once you play the newer ones, I would think it would be hard to go back to the older ones.

To behonest, I've never had much desire to play any of the ones before VII. Not sure why. I really liked VII and IX was pretty good as well.
