quote:This holy shite kickers being amazing hurts the product IMO. They should do something about it. I'm sick of field goal contests. They're not even contests. Barring something really weird happening once a team is inside the 35 it's 3 points. I like the uncertainty and the additional decision making you have to make when your kicker is a 19 year old kid who you saw shank a few in warmups.
In the NFL, the goalposts should be moved back 5 to 10 yards. There's too many kickers who can nail the 50 yarders with regularity.

1. Tom Brady is overrated- he's certainly good but the whole best ever is laughable to me. To me he may not even be in the top ten all time of QB's
2. Lebron James is already the second best ever and will probably pass MJ- I don't think people will ever recognize him as better, though, because MJ is sort of a folk legend and ESPN did a good job convincing people that Lebron wasn't clutch, and people will always hang on to that
3. NBA playoffs are ALOT better than March Madness. It's not really close for me
4. Football is doing the right thing by being extra cautious with player safety- and no the fact that they get paid millions to play a game isn't justification to allow certain hits just so the fans will be happy
I came here for these.
Lebron is the 2nd best already, and he's still in his prime. He'll surpass Jordan. Maybe not to people who were around for the Jordan fanfare, but if you take the emotion and nostalgia out, Lebron already has a case.
I do think the NFL is trying to do some mad PR work by going over the top on safety issues, but these players need some protection. Any hit that could end a player's career or well-being isn't good for anyone, the fans, players, or league. They also need protection from head injuries. It's sad to see a physical freak of nature turned into someone lost on the corner with no pants because their brain is Campbell's soup. I'm assuming this happened at least once.

Yes, but it will take about 20 years again.
But right now, the guys kicking 50+ yard field goals will still be kicking 50+ yard field goals. The record will be broken with or without moving the goal posts.

Basketball is garbage. I can watch the last 3 mins of Game 7 and see all I need to.
Stanley Cup finals are the best playoffs hands down. MLB is close.
Love watching golf on TV.

1)I like tie games better than overtimes in football, under the current overtime formats. Play 1 5 minute overtime period.
2)There should be a moratorium on FBS football conferences, but not teams, and the winner of every conference should get a spot in a playoff.
3)Don't like Peyton Manning since he was an ungracious loser in the super bowl. Not shaking hands with the Saints was ridiculously bad form.
4)NFL has the perfect league size, scheduling format and playoff format.
5)In closed economies, revenue sharing and cost controls work better than attempts at free market because there can be no free market when your economy is closed. The NFL does both, the most successful college conferences revenue share. MLB should as well.

I actively root for players teams I used to love to now lose after they become overpublicized and overexposed.
See Favre, Brett.
And EVERY Boston sports team.

Almost every sports journalist will report a story for their beat that they know is complete bullshite just as a favor for a player/agent/coach/owner or out of fear of losing access to them.

Any college football playoff should include all conference champions before considering other teams. To reduce the pool, if the champion of a conference is felt not worthy of competing for the overall championship, that league should be bumped to a lower division. By that, I mean cull out the Sunbelts, C-USAs, Mid-Americas, etc. from the start.
For those insistent on second chances for those not getting their work done the first time, as an alternative, I would give each conference a playoff spot and let them decide who their representative should be - the champion or some higher ranked conference runner-up.

This sounds like a terrible idea. Anytime a conference champion got bumped for anyone else, there would be legitimate cries of foul play. How could you as a conference justify sending one team, and not choosing your league's champion? And you know a conference would probably do that at some point under your scenario.

USL most certainly should be referred to as The University of Louisiana. Always, and forever.

Please don't turn this thread into that

Willie Mays Hayes had the skill set to be better than Willie Mays but he just was too much of a head case.

I'd support electronic strike zone

"The Catch" (Willie Mays) is the most overrated play in the history of sports

Yep. My point was that any conference champion of "legitimate" conferences in the pool should be favored over, say a team that finished second in its division and didn't make the conference championship game. If that respective league feels that team's exclusion is so unjust, let them replace the conference champ in the playoffs with that team. It was sarcasm.

1) playoffs aren't any more logical than the BCS
2) I don't care if players use steroids. At all.
3) World Series needs to start first week of Oct. Season should be shortened to make this happen.
4) cities should own the franchises. I think Green Bay already does. Since tax payer money already goes into the stadiums. Heck, Saints straight up get a check from the state. Ridiculous.

LSU should do away with putting numbers on every 5 yard line. Makes the field look like a jumbled mess and makes you have to search for a number which has the arrow to show you the side of the field.
I do like the dual goalposts though.
