Oh-we-oh and Neck are back
Yes I said I have gone to the games since the 70s. The Florida State game was in the early 80s. Death Valley was posted in the stadium at least since the early 80s I think. I have been going 35 years so I have no idea what year they first put "Death Valley" on the West Side. When I first went to games there was no upper deck so it is likely "Death Valley" went up after 1979. The point is the reputation was built long before it went up.
"Death Valley" had long been associated with Tiger Stadium as far back as the 1960s.
In a song written and recorded in 1970 by Ken Hanna called "Archie Who at LSU", one of the lines in the song is "the stadium crowd came alive that night, down in Death Vall-lee...."
My Dad attended games in the 40's, 50's and 60's and he told me he never ever remembered the phrase "Deaf Valley."
Also, Tiger Stadium didn't get a reputation as a loud fearful stadium until the late 50s ANYWAY....
so why in the HELL would it have been known as "Deaf Valley", when the 'deafening' reputation of Tiger Stadium didn't really take hold until the late 50s ??????????????????????????

Nah, the student section is going to say "STTDB" because a lot of them act like a bunch of pre-teens.

As i said before there was a 100 page thread about it about a year ago, and people found newspaper articles from the 50s and 60s referring it as Death Valley.

For the millionth time, I'm not a student, and I didn't do that chant. Reading is your friend.

Wrong, nothing new for you though. You suck, cocks wasn't there til 2007, but regular old you suck was there before that.

I agree with pretty much everything you post on the Rant, because you are actually one of a few logical people that isn't suicidal because we lost to Ole Miss - but I will say you are being pretty douchey about this whole thing.
USMC said this earlier in the thread, then he claimed they aren't vulgar at all. I was just curious which it was.

be mature about it
I hope this works out, but most college students are hardly mature.

Once there's a sizable student attendance (A&M game), I'd be willing to bet large sums of money that the students will continue to chant STTDB the very first time the band plays Neck. People have to understand how college students, particularly LSU students, operate.

ehhh kind of both. The "You Suck" was ok and I'm sure they would have been able to live with it, but adding the "cocks" probably pushed it over the edge.

It's the latter. I was a sophomore in 2007. The students (I don't want to say "we") had been saying "you suck" for a few games and then added "cock" when we played USCe.
I really don't care about cursing, I have an incredibly foul mouth, but yelling that shite in unison for the whole country to hear? No thanks. And it really sucks because oh-we-oh and Neck are awesome and get the crowd and team pumped.

One would think that our students would be able to come up with more clever, less vulgar things to chant when these songs are being played. I like that the students get into it but, they can find a classier way.

Have you ever been in the LSU student section?

I have a friend who knows the guy who started the whole STTDB. Tells me that the guy is now embarrassed and really sorry that one drunken mistake has gotten so far out of hand.

We need to bring back tiger rag. That song is so much more meaningful to the tradition of LSU than oh we oh and neck.
