So I'm sitting here in an Urgent Care waiting room in awe of something I've never even heard of: 19 Kids and Counting. Of course it's on TLC. These fricks have has 19 fricking kids, and no one has thought of birth control. Oh, and to top it off they're about to have a 20th kid.

Am I the only one hoping that they pump in cyanide gas into the house to end this debauchery? Or in the very least have TLC come in and have forced vasectomies/tube tying to every family member. I just can't believe people are dumb enough to watch this thing, when in reality these adults should be tarred and feathered. Someone should have shoved a broom handle up this woman's cooch and snapped it off after kid #3.

This show has been on for a few years. Are you new? And they aren't having a 20th kid. They are like 50 now. They have grandkids.

And why all the hate? They don't live off of the government. I have no issue with people having tons of kids if they can afford them and take care of them.

I'm out of it now, but I'm just amazed someone could take it that far and be celebrated by it. I honestly just think if we killed everyone who is involved with and watches TLC that the collective IQ of this country would raise by about 10 points.

What are the parents' professions? Unless they are practically millionares it's hard to believe they can support a family of 22 on even fairly high salaries.

Oh and WTF kind of house do they live in?

I think they keep popping out the kids for the show money.

The duggars are truly a cult of progeny

They own a bunch of businesses around Arkansas and 4 of the 19 are grown now. So, they are probably out of the house.

Because its impossible to really take care of 20 kids, even if you are financially capable. Most good people are capable of raising 3 or 4 kids tops without emotional abuse (5 tops). No way you can mentally raise that many kids. It's child abuse, even if both parties are ignorant of it.

I hate the Duggars. Those older girls raise the young kids and the mom acts like her only purpose (albeit a "divine purpose" according to her and wacky Jim Bob ) is to get pregnant. Well, she's starting to head into menopause.

I think the first son who had an 'arranged' marriage already has 2 or 3 kids, and I think Jim Bob is trying to marry off the oldest daughter; *gasp* because she's 20, and you know that 20 year old girls are old maids.

I really hope some of the kids rebel and write a tell-all book.

That's still 15 kids and 2 adults to support. I don't have a family yet so I'm clueless as to even hazard an accurate guess...but wouldn't they need to combine to make like 600K at least? I mean that's a shite load of expenses.

And again, what is their living situation? Obviously custom built, but how many bedrooms? How many kids are doubling up?

Good for them for not leeching off the government, but damn I'd hate to be one of those kids and have 20 siblings. I can't imagine being just another face in my own house.

the dad has his own commercial real estate company

they are doing extremely well financially

and as they had more and more kids, the older kids did a lot of helping out.

I dont care for their political or religious beliefs, but by all indications they are a very good family

Also, Jim Boob was in the Arkansas State Legislator, so they get benefits for life, I think.

How many, IYO, is the maximum number of children a couple can have without them mentally & emotionally abusing the children, and thus becoming child abuse?

If I remember correctly the girls all share one big room and the boys share another. I'd assume they get a decent amount of money from TLC for the show, but even before then I don't think they were bad off financially.

From their blog...
quote:

Q: How large is the Duggar' house, and how much did it cost?
A: 7,000 square feet. The original kit that they purchased from Kodiak Steel Homes cost $82,000 but had defective I-beams. The owner of the company sent out a new set and graciously allowed the Duggars to keep the old ones. For an extra $5,000, Jim Bob was able to purchase enough supplies to use all of the beams, which resulted in a home twenty-four feet longer than the family had originally planned for--at a bargain price.

Q: How did the Duggars become debt-free?
A: After working through Jim Sammon's Financial Freedom Seminar, Jim Bob and Michelle sold their home and rented until they had saved up enough to buy a fixer-upper. They began following the motto "Buy Used and Save the Difference" and have been debt-free for years.

Typically 3 or 4. If you have a natural talent for parenting, maybe 5. Six or more at least one kid is going to be left behind and no one is going to really give a shite so long as the prodigal children and the kids most like their parents succeed. In my perfect world, a person would receive a complementary vasectomy/tube tying the moment they put an additional 6 people onto the world, although I'd give the guy who had 4 kids and then a set of twins a break. The moment you can't fit a family in a Suburban is the moment you know that you've had too many kids.

I just looked it up, and apparently they've assigned a sibling to look after and basically raise another. Sorry, but that's not a good family environment. Kids and teens don't know crap about raising children. And these are the type of clowns who are against gay adoption, but don't mind 10 kids growing up in a foster home, where no one is really there to look after them in the long term.

I'll wait for the tell-all book before making a determination on that. Christian Patriarchy is a cult that believes in arranged marriages, that women should not be educated beyond what it takes to run a household, and that girls should be under the control of their father until she leaves the home for her (arranged) marriage.

Jim Bob is just a well-scrubbed, non-threatening-looking David Koresh.

Jim Boob and Michelle are also a part of the Quiver Full Movement.

I also don't like how they force their kids to be homeschooled (and you know the curriculum they're using isn't up to normal standards) and none of the kids, especially the girls, ever think about going to college. And they definitely have arranged marriages for their kids. Their oldest daughter who is "courting" a boy right now isn't allowed to go on one-on-one dates with him. All dates must be chaperoned by parents, and they're only allowed to hug for no more than 10 seconds. No hand holding, no kissing, no nothin'.

The highly critical people in this thread are ridiculous. I'm not a big fan of the show but my wife watches it. Why the frick do you care how many kids someone has if they are fed and clothed?

Do you think an older child being assigned the responsibility to look after a younger child harms the older child? Really? Is catering to our kids every need until they're 18 really turning out productive members of society?

The Homeschool criticism may be the most laughable. As if the standards of the public school system are above reproach. Give me a break.

Let's bump this thread in 20 years and see where these kids are. I guarantee you they will be in the top tier of society.
