It's not just Freak. They were abusing Ego on those running plays to the Right side all night as well.

One huge problem with our DT's is lack of depth or coaches unwilling to get Ego and Freak rest?

Pretty much the entire defense has underperformed. Some of the young guys you understand. But, some of the veterans are killing this D. Specifically Loston and Barrow. Both of those guys have played a ton of snaps and both have played pretty bad.
The single most disappointing aspect of this defense is the poor tackling.

I do see a ray of hope with guys like Robinson, White, Hunter, and Alexander. But, that's not nearly enough.

maybe it is the inexperience. Look at Georgia, they are having the same problems, and are just as talented as us. It just takes time in the workout program, growth, etc

and the bad thing is i think it will be worse next year....(heard it hear first)

Reason, Freak will leave for money reasons (even though he is not ready, prob ego as well) and you have absolutely no depth on the DL, especially at DT, it takes us years to get them because at least one is usually a bigger DE that we put weight on... need some JUCO DT's quick...

Chavis has always been a fan of the smaller faster Lb's for his scheme, i still wish he would get bigger mikes...like kshep...i pray they dont move beckwith to DE, way undersized...I still think Maclin should have never moved...

i actually think the jennings kid could be like winston at FL ST...we may not be...OL will be good, Landry will be back and we have some good skill guys coming...might be ok there...but we need a massive defensive line recruiting class the next two years...and really O-line as well..

The biggest disappointment on the D this year is Freak followed closely by Ego. These guys will not make an NFL roster if they leave early.

so if that's the case, why not take a few chances, blitz more, play aggressively, instead of this utter GARBAGE we're seeing that supposedly passes for a gameplan?

This is exactly my problem with the coaching. Clearly, our talent level on D isn't good enough this year, so it's up to the coaches to devise different schemes to try to make our D more effective. Without NFL talent on D, simply lining up and playing our standard scheme isn't working this year.

Why not devise an actual game plan that is completely unpredictable to opposing offenses. Blitz from different spots, use zone blitzes, disguise coverages better, etc. Use ANYTHING to try to confuse the offenses and keep them guessing. Playing straight-up D won't work against good offenses, so we've got to be smarter and mix it up.

Isn't this what coaches are supposed to do all week when they're crafting the "game plan?"

I understand all the arguments on Defense but I think we have improved slightly. If Mett doesn't have a terrible game we win easily. Yes, there are many things to improveand things we could have done different but Mett had a terrible game. If he plays even decent we win. I Totally disagree with taking Hill off the field at all unless he was hurt or something. He can score on any play.

The fact that we held Ole Miss to 10 first half points despite our 3 turnovers should give hope regarding our defense.

I can't remember the actual snap count, but it was insane. Our defense was on the field way too much.

Our inability to get off the field on third down was pretty frustrating anyway.

On one of the points above, I was wondering during the Ole Miss game why Lacoutre and Thomas were not seeing much playing time. I thought they had done enough vs. Florida to deserve a chance vs. Ole Miss, and also to keep Johnson & Ferguson fresh for the 4th quarter.

Right or Wrong, Chavis/Miles just doesn't have confidence in some of the Subs.

It's why Welter keeps seeing the field. Evidently the coaches think that the alternative is worst.

At this point, I really don't expect wholesale changes. Based on the 4th Q of last week, I'm hoping we see more #23 and less of #31. But, I doubt it.

Had we not turned the ball over we win easily? not sure about that.
Had OM not crapped themselves the 2nd half, we get blown out by 3 TD's.
That can go both ways.
Bottom Line is last Sat. night in Oxford OM was a better team than LSU.

Yeah because we just had 9 players drafted. So you think all these players were ready to play in the nfl day 1 out of hs?

So who else would they have beaten Sat night?

with the effort they gave and the offensive performance of Wallace just about anybody they played except bama. any team whose qb gives away early scoring chances and puts his team in the hole Mett did could easily have lost to om. factor in the om/LSU rivalry, which they seem to take a lot more seriously than we, and any serious observer would understand that what happened was not as much an upset as it was a probability. get your head out of your arse long enough to realise that many of the SEC teams we play are just as talented as LSU at the top of their depth charts. any one with a brain can see that Freese is building a very solid program at om and the only decline I see at LSU is with a fan base that lives in a state of perpetual fantasy.

get better, get better, get better.

Um, no. If you are going to find the examples that fit your agenda, you need to acknowledge those that go against it.

There are plenty examples of this staff finding good talent, and finding underrated talent (in terms of stars) that turn out to be very good.
