His biggest issue is that he doesn't give two shits on defense. Which is sad considering his considerable size. All he wants to do is score. I never liked the guy personally either.

quote:Except Dirk was a great player then, and it was stupid when people said that. Melo is not as good a player as Dirk was. It's almost like their situations are different because they're different types of players. One is a efficient high volume scorer, and the other is a chucker.
Remember 6-7 years ago when people said this about Dirk.

quote:typical melo fanboy passing the buck to his supporting cast. His team in Denver was built perfectly for him. 7 guys who played D, rebounded, and did the dirty work so melo could just score. Then he complains there's no one to help him score. Get iverson? Bitch about someone else scoring.
I hear this a lot and tend to disagree. Isolation players can win and have often. What Melo needs is a cast around him that opens the floor. A couple of shooters that can spread and a Post that can step out and draw his defender or stay inside effectively. Currently I just don't see the cast there. JR Smith takes too many contested shots with his man right on him. When he takes these isolation jumpers or drives iso he is essentially taking shots away from Melo; a player who does these things more effectively. Chandler is extremely limited offensively allowing his man to loosen up on him at time to help on Melo Absolutely hate the MWP addition. When he was on the lakers it would kill me to see some of the stuff he would throw up with Kobe on the floor. Absolutely inexcusable shots for a player of his caliber
You talk about adding this, adding that. If you want a stud defender in the paint who can also score, he'd be a better player than melo. And there just aren't that many gifted 7 footers on this planet who can play D and O at a high level. Not to mention, melo is a ball stopper. He completely dominates the ball and other great players have no interest in playing with him. Well, other than JR smith....
Carmelo is a flawed player. Building your team around a flawed player in a salary cap league is a losing proposition. He wants max money, and everyone else to do the dirty work. There's a reason he's been outta the first rd only twice in his career. He thinks playoff basketball is about scoring. It's all about defense. I highly doubt he ever gets a ring.

Well said.
I've stated multiple times on here that he will not win a title unless he is and older role player on a stacked team.

If his wife is still trying to do TV? If so then NY and LA are the only options. That was one of the driving forces behind his move in the first place.

I was never a Melo guy and teaming him up with Kobe would make me want to shoot myself as a Laker fan.

I agree that the Nuggets best year was 2008-09 when they reached the WCF. That team was built for him and they went deep.
Losing to the Lakers of that day is not much of a failure IMO. Lets not forget who the coach was either, not hating on Karl to hard, but he has never got the job done either
The depth chart if I'm remembering/referencing correctly was
Billups
JR Smith
Melo
Martin
Nene
with Kleiza,, Anthony Carter D. Jones and Birdman coming off the bench
Jones Billups and Smith were lights out from 3 that year they spaced the floor for Melo.
Melo hasn't had a cast that complimentary since then.

yeah the NBA is about building around a superstar(s)

How many Big men in the game can do that? you are describing a near, if not, HOFer. Of course I'm taking Tim Duncan, KG over Melo in their prime. Who do you want Chris Bosh? Dwight Howard? Gasol?

Jordan/Kobe = 11 rings. It has been done

What is your definition of flawed player? Dwayne needed shaq to get it done. Kobe needed O'neal/Gasol. Jordan had great teams. hell pierce got shite for the same stuff Melo does and add KG + Ray and he is beloved

Partly his fault, but the culture of basketball in the Denver organization is obviously not conducive to deep playoff runs

He might not get one. I just think he is capable
