You didn't notice how LSU's D played them last year?

Ego has been anything but soft. The DEs have actually played better than I expected.

If anything, AJ hasn't lived up ti the hype and our LBs (which were supposed to be a major strength) have been soft.

It seems to me the LBs haven't attacked the gaps or the runners, just sitting back waiting for the play to cget to them.

This post hit the nail on the head. Ego has played up to LSU standards. Freak has not. The LB's have not.

Watching Florida's front seven after watching ours is eye-opening. It's a totally different class of football.

The thing I saw against auburn was a lack of gap discipline. Granted, the standard fan watching the game has no idea what kind of stunts may be called for the D-line, but I saw several players in our front four taking the easy route to the backfield. You have to fight through the block and get to where they are trying to stop you from getting to. Depending on the play and offensive scheme, the blocker will invite the defender to take a certain path around the block, and by doing so the defender takes himself out of the play.

We especially need the freshman d-linemen to focus on fighting through blocks to the point of attack.

Again, different defensive calls and line-stunts change the gap and outside contain responsibilities. So some of the plays I saw could easily have been called stuns, so as always take this with a grain of salt.

Their D is scary good. That's the one team that may just shut us down offensively. Also, they may get a lot better on offense now that their QB is out for the year.

Really? Well then. That's certainly good news for LSU

I agree with Memphis. ..as usual. The only thing I'll say about freak is he's been double teamed ALOT. Hopefully we can get to the qb a little more to help break up those double teams

The freak needs to start playing like Tarzan not Jane.

Not sure if serious. Containment is the ONLY way to stop JFF. If the DE's start rushing up field, he may have 400+ yds rushing.

To the OP, I think the DL has played ok to this point. Ego = above average, Freak = average, DEs = above. MLB and Safety are the problems with this Defense. Fix those and this is a top notch unit.

But we reload.

However, I said that losing 11 juniors would hurt and that we returned the least amount of experience on the DL since 2000 and that the amount of experience that would be starting was less than the amount of experienced backups we normally have.

Hmmm...a lot of the "smart" people are selling on Fla right now...not buying.

We'll see if you are right.

We need to get Q. Thomas more playing time, I believe he was nicked last Ssturday. He's looked pretty good this year.

I'm not confident in the D. I think they are adequate, but the offense is going to really have to put up points every game if this team is going to make noise this year.

i agree with your critique. i am a positiger and miles lover and have been even in 2009. i mention my requisites because the really really really sunshine pumping crowd doesn't like any comments that aren't blinding praising all facets of our game. we simply lost toom many guys and several key juniors that would make this an NC contender this year. we need bennie logan and minter and yes, simon and one of our DE's from last year. if our juniors would have stuck we'd be the best tiger team i can ever remember seeing. however, they didn't and we have a group of guys that are good and have potential but just aren't there yet. really good offenses are going to exploit this and score lots of points. uga's offense will be the best we play this year (maybe a&m too) and our O had better light it up if we're gonna pull off the victory.

Not against Auburn...and Freak didn't do much. He needs to improve in a hurry.
