son, we were playing two deep safeties the entire 4th quarter and most of hte back end of the 3rd since we had the bigger lead. specifically to prevent those plays

"Cover two?" I was in the stadium and haven't watched the replay but I would bet $100 that both of those plays were against one-high safety sets, and the other safety was in the box to try to defend that belly read Auburn was running all night.

Actually the OP is correct. I wouldn't say we had terrible safety play, but on 2 plays, the corner released the receiver inside expecting over the top help and Eugene was out of position both times allowing big plays.

Chief is going to challenge the defensive line in this game. He's going to point to the fact that Allen, Rasco and/or Hunter have the chance to stand out on the biggest stage of the weekend and look better than the likely #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. While Clowney didn't look terrible against UGA, he didn't look special with the exception of a few plays. UGA likely ran away from him, but Clowney should have played better.

I believe that the defense will shock people in this game and put it all together. I see Allen as the defensive player of the game and he'll sack Murray twice in critical passing situations and create havoc against the run. Also think that OBJ has a HUGE game both on special teams and receiving. And finally, Loston will collide with Gurley creating a small crater in the earth in Athens sometime around 4:00 PM EST.

LSU in a blowout

34 - 17 with a late UGA TD.

I wonder if Rickey Jefferson is ready for prime time yet. we need a taller rangier safety back there. Eugene seems short and just can't get his hands to any deep balls

Playing 2 deep safeties does not mean we were in cover 2. If we were in cover 2 the corners would have sat down in the flats. On both those deep balls the corners ran with the deep ball so I'd bet we were in Man underneath with 2 deep safeties. Btw on both deep balls the safety that was late was making his first start as a safety.

It's tough going from Landry,Steltz,Reid,
Taylor, etc.to what we saw out of Eugene. He was slow, he was undisciplined and he looked clueless.

It's tough going from Ron Cooper to Corey Raymond. Big drop off there. Part of the current problem is DB position coaching, which will be confirmed this week in Athens.

It's called cover 2 dog or cover 2 cat. Man to man on the corners with 2 deep safeties. This just means that the corner plays the receiver slightly different, releasing him inside to take away the out route or anything underneath. He is still expecting over the top help from the safety, which he never got.

I've never seen safety play this poor at LSU in many years

2008?

These kinds of comments show how long you've really been paying attention to LSU football.

My problem he never looks for the ball until it is in the receivers hands. He needs to turn when he see's the receiver's eyes.

Yep. You can sort of understand a CB doing this sometimes. Collins has this issue a lot obviously. But for a Safety to do it, while in deep zone coverage like he was (twice), that is inexcusable. Really, really bad.

I'm not buying that Cooper had NFL talent during his tenure and we are really young. Again, the kids know the schemes and are a step late or late on finding the ball both of which will get better.

Yeah, I just hope those expecting our doors to get blown off come back and stand by their predictions when we win. Why do I think they'll instead minimize the win and say UGA isn't that good?

People can discuss a few flaws without actually hoping we lose. I understand what you're saying, lots of these frickers are just miserable. But there are people who like to discuss and break things down, doesnt make them negative or anti-LSU.

Aaron Murray >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nick Marshall

If we fail to get pressure on Murray and Eugene is playing safety then Murray will absolutely shred our defense.
