Love this move

Is this a joke? You're proposing giving up a first rounder for a 4th round draft pick who has barely played? The Colts may be picking top 10, certainly top 20.
Cousins has looked really good whenever he's had a chance to play. A mid first probably is too much, but Washington seems intent on keeping him as their backup and talented QBs are really valuable. As bad as the Browns are, I don't see them finishing with a worse record than Jacksonville (Jags play @ Cleveland later in the year). They're not going to get Bridgewater without a huge offer to Jacksonville to move up a few spots. Maybe offering their 2nd that could become the Colts' pick if Cousins meets some impressive incentives would be enough to get it done and protect the Browns in the event that Cousins sucks. But it's not like the Browns have been able to draft/develop QBs for shite.

Bingo.
But this will help the Browns.

Awful trade for Browns if you consider all of the pieces. However, at least they got a 1st round back.
They gave up a 1st, 4th, 5th, and 7th round to move up to get T. Rich.
Not a bad move by Indy. I'd take a known commodity for Richardson.
For everyone giving Richardson shite for being hurt. It may have hurt his productivity. However, he didn't miss a game (if im not mistaking), #6 in the NFL w TDs, #7th with touches. You stack the box against Trent and the Browns don't win. Weeden was inconsistent. 14 TD 17 INTs 6 Fumbles. That offense just needs help. Outside of Joe Thomas. It's not a good OL
How is it a bad deal for Indy ? I dont see it.

I don't like the deal for Indy because I think they could have just signed Willis McGahee and had him spell Ahmad Bradshaw and done just fine at running back without losing a 1st round pick.

McGahee? I'm sure they're thinking long term with this trade not short term
Posted on 9/18/13 at 10:44 pm to hendersonshands
the Colts had a big turnover in defensive personnel during the off-season, I wonder if they will be active spenders in FA again next year.
or did they lay it all on the line this past off-season? Wonder how much cap room they are going to have.

I really don't think it is.
Browns had a good rb in him last year. Sure, his yards per carry wasn't great, but he almost had 1000 yards rushing, and over 300 yards receiving, and 12 TDS all together as a rookie.
The Browns traded him after 2 games in his second year? That just seems like a bad deal anyway you slice it for the Browns.
He doesn't need to be great in Indy either. Just needs to be good enough for defenses to respect the run game. By the end of this year, Luck and Richardson will be a very deadly duo.

Willis McGahee isn't the answer either though. Maybe that is a bad suggestions. However he is what 36 with bad knees and not a long term solution.
It's a first round draft pick. However, when drafting we all know at times it's a crap shoot. In this scenario. Richardson won't be bruised up as much with Luck throwing the ball. Didn't Norv say that he wanted him to have 320 carries per year. No RB in the NFL could be successful with that many carries and no QB throwing the ball.
Christian Ponder was a more efficient QB than Brandon Weeden last year. Better skill players. Better OL. A playoff team compared to a bottom cellar team. Apples and Oranges. No comparison. IMO
Maybe they thought he wasn't durable, which I can see that. He didn't miss a game but was injured. Ok.
If Trent continues to grow and we all know he is in a better system now than in Cleveland. It could be a home run. I always thought Julio would stay hurt. He did at Bama....he always played through it. So far, it worked out for ATL.

I don't really see that much value in trying to lock up a running back long term, unless the dude is racking up 2,000 on the reg. Running backs are a dime a dozen.
Bradshaw still probably has a couple of more seasons at an above average rate, you can pair him with another above average guy and have a good enough run game to complement Luck.
The money would be better spent on the offensive line.

I'm still unsure of the wisdom of this move (at this point in time), but I completely agree with this article about Trent Richardson.
LINK
Is he a game changer? Frick no. He's an above average running back. He may be very good for the Colts. But we're in a league where RBs are interchangeable with a very few exceptions. Richardson is hardly a generational RB.

I agree. I wouldn't waste a top 10 pick on any RB. Maybe not a 1st round pick. However, would you waste a first round pick on a rookie player that finished top 6 in TDs, good kid, team player, highly recognized by NFL players, HUGE market player/fan following, and lots of excitement ?
The browns gets the following. Lose out on 3 draft picks, piss off fans, get rid of a playmaker, get an unknown player. They did really good to get a 1st rounder back though.

People are acting like AP was traded, when it was more like Ronnie Brown

I think it was more the shock of a team actually trading a starting RB. It doesn't seem like there are many big trades like this made that often, especially during the season.
Also, Richardson was the only thing on the Browns offense last year that came close to being productive. It feels sorta like a country going into war, but then that country decides to sell all of its guns too.

The Browns management isn't worried about what happened in the 2012 draft anymore. That shitshow is in the past. I understand why Indy did it but I'd much rather take my chances with two first round picks and trying to find the next Alfred Morris than a nice, solid running back who cost me a first rounder. That's why I say the Browns clearly won this trade.
I like the Ronnie Brown comparison.

I don't think so. I think some browns fans maybe overreacting. However, I probably would too. They have had only a handful of good players in awhile. They'd flip out over Joe Thomas and Joe Haden getting traded as well.
I think people are overanalyzing right now because it's early in the season and it's an time where you give up on a promising rookie early on in his career.
If Mingo had 9 sacks and was traded the next year. The same thing would happen.

Yeah this new regime could suck too but they shouldn't be handcuffed by past moves. I'd be worried as a Browns fan too but as an unbiased outsider, I think this is absolutely the right move for this team.

True. Especially after one full season. It is pretty unusual.

And he did an admirable job. But the only RB in this league that can carry a team is AP. The Browns realize they drafted Chris Weinke 2.0 with Weeden and are now preparing themselves for next draft. For the Browns to have any hope, they need to start over at the most important position.

I agree that the 1st round pick was nice to get back. They fricked up when they drafted Trent because of what they gave up. No RB could have been considered a great success in his position. That's a lot of resources for one player.
Resources wasted. If they can replenish with a good player late in the draft. It will be a success. But, if it's another high risk/low reward player. Browns are frickED.
