It's crazy to think about the amount of talent we've produced at the CB position in recent years. Our nickelback in 2011 is starting in the NFL (Ron Brooks)

I got derided when I posted this during the game Saturday night. Of course, one of them was a charter member of TeamSweep, so we know how knowledgable he is.

He looks mid-high 170s to me. Plenty big enough.
Whether's he's 6'1" or 6'2" - his frame may not be conducive to holding too much weight - and I agree that 180 to 190 can be effective, even on a player this tall. Speed and turning are more valuable than bulk on a corner, once at a minimal size - but the 160s is just unimaginable at this level. Holliday was 155 and he was 5'5".
But, I know what RR is thinking right now, "26th best cornerback in the country? Suck my d*ck!"

I don't know if the DE's, LB's, DB's/safeties are to blame, but it's alarming. Gurley will gash us if it continues.
I will say if we can find one more DE to play like Jordan Allen, we will be more than OK. The other guys are using their talent, but they are not using their technique which allows teams to get to the edge. Every team will try to get to the edge until we effectively stop it.

1. Mills got toasted on one play by a good WR and great throw. It happens. I'm still in the Mills camp.
2. Our key to beating A&M last year was that we forced JFF to beat LSU throwing over the top, anything over 10-15 yards we had man coverage. Our DBs did their part, and we kept more folks closer to the line to keep JFF under wraps. I noticed that JFF's lack of accuracy for anything over 10 yards was not going to win them the game. LSU is probably hoping for the same approach this year. That means we absolutely have to find our top 2-3 cover CBs by mid-season. If they are true freshman, so be it. I think the potential is for that to be Mills+Robinson+White. But, let's see how the young guys develop. They will play a lot for this reason alone -- to cue up a win over A&M.
3. As mentioned, we need improvement in the secondary with TACKLING, not just coverage. This cuts way down on huge plays. If Tre White has a nasty streak and arrives at the ball in a bad mood, that is a big plus. See also Micah Eugene. LSU fans have definitely been spoiled with some of the great open field tacklers in the secondary the last 6-8 years. We don't yet have that same level with this team.

I'm not saying we're a dominant d but it was 28-0 and we had given up 4 yards of offense to UAB. You think the d became a little lackadaisical? Hard not to.

That was my opinion during the game as well

And they came back in the 2nd half and forced a bunch of 3 and outs - I'm not worried about the 2nd quarter against UAB, particularly, just the general drop off in tackling - although the DL is a pleasant surprise, so far.

Thank you.
I'm not about to say this D is close to as good our previous defenses have been, but I think the 2Q happenings were a bit of an anomaly. I don't think it's representative of the product we'll see once conference play begins.

Les also said that the players who are missing tackles will improve or they will return to the sidelines. Unlike some of Miles's other press conferences, that message was made very clear for all to hear.
